WCG Nordic - No more spots

"Next year you have to apply more numbers from the beginning"

[s]event_wcg[/s]Several preliminaries in the World Cyber Games in Starcraft have for this year's grand final each had a great difference from previous years. Some players have been given the chance to pay their own trip. GosuGamers can now confirm that this, however, will not happen to the Nordic countries; Sweden, Finland and Norway.

As the official sponsors of WCG Nordic, Samsung, had their say and the official games were announced, Starcraft was not on the list. You've heard the story before - we managed to add another spot for Sweden, Finland and Norway. More players than one from each country, however, would be a too great expense for our site. But when the option of having the players paying their own trip came up, we immediately started looking into it.

After discussions with the International Cyber Marketing (ICM), who runs the World Cyber Games, we can now confirm that the Nordic countries can not send more players. This is due to the lack of room in the player's village in the grand final. Our argument was that it might only be three to four additional players and that they might even get their own hotel to stay at, but the answer remained. The Nordic WCG managers said that if some got the chance to pay their own tickets in Starcraft, then the players from Warcraft 3, Counter-Strike and every other preliminary game would want to do the same. And there is, according to ICM, no space for that many extra players.

Nevertheless, if the Nordic WCG managers had chosen to add more than one spot in each game a few months ago, this would never have been a problem.
Korea Choy, Regional manager at ICM, stated "Next year you have to apply more numbers from the beginning", referring to the WCG Nordic mangers.
