WCG Preview: Muhweli

Great sense of humour, always with a happy smile on his face. Muhweli experiences he can beat many of the players participating in WCG 2004 but on the same time rates his own chances of winning the Finnish preliminary as low as fifteen per cent!

[s]event_wcg[/s]8 days left! This time it's Finland Sami "Muhweli" Anttila, 20, who is spotlighted. He is the leader of Destination Skyline's (DSky) Starcraft team and a member of the Finnish National Team. He is fond of Martian Cross and describes himself as a "A hard-working easily loved person with great sense of humour and always a happy smile".

Muhweli starts off by confessing to me that there are a couple of great players in the Finnish community who have collected fame and fortune through their careers and are better than himself. He is referring to Finland Ovvi, the National Team Leader, and Finland DSky.Aqrash, Muhweli's own team mate. That either of these two players will win the preliminaries seems to be a general opinion among the participating gamers. However, Muhweli adds shyly that he believes himself to have a decent chance of taking them down and "claim my well-earned victory".

muhweli.jpgWhen asked to approximate his winning probability of the preliminary, Muhweli continues the attitude of not being too optimistic. His answer is "ten to fifteen per cent". Nevertheless, when we change subject to the grand finals in USA - assuming he would go that far - his attitude changes. Muhweli says that, with a bit of luck, he thinks he could beat lots of the already qualified players. However, his chances of advancing from the group play clearly depends on what sort of group he ends up in. He estimates his chances to drop down to half or even less in case one of the Korean players would be in his group.

Facing his fellow national team leader Finland Ovvi will be hard, Muhweli reckons. Anything can happen in the Zerg versus Zerg matchup, but Muhweli thinks one of the maps might be in particular advantage to him; "Ovvi might not be picking zerg for Gorky Island though so it could be a possibility to squeeze a victory."

As the interview advances into discussion about the Finnish National Team, Muhweli seems proud to state that the average skill level of Finnish national players has dramatically increased lately. "If we get to use our number 1 line-up, I believe we can beat pretty much any country or at least give them a hell of a competition." When talking about the winning probability for Finland facing Sweden or Norway, Muhweli is a lot more optimistic and states that Finland will have a good chance and up to as high as fifty per cent.

GosuGamers wishes Sami "Muhweli" Anttila good luck at the Finnish WCG Preliminaries the 31st of July!
