Tournament 2 coverage

Yesterday's StarGate tournament held a fairly high level, both skillwise and its administrational smoothness. But the playoffs clearly destroyed that pattern because of one main behavior, called dodging!

After a lot of requests about starting a tournament at StarGate to get more players to participate, I took the train down to Sweden Karlskrona and met up with ZoXXeR and poGDI. We published information about the second StarGate tournament and within two hours we had 64 players registered for tournament play. A best out of one featuring BWScanner in all games, and a lot of the top players at the server, including Germany Red[SiN], Spain ArChOn_PaTillOn, Germany DoeRaeMe, Netherlands FlameOfTheWest, Netherlands ToT)Strafe(, Spain Archon_Pelucon and others. We started and published brackets on time - only one minute late this time (compared to 30 minutes last time due to bracket problems)!

One of the more spectacular situations occured when Netherlands FlameofTheWest was facing United States Winter. Neither of them could join the other player's created games, nor any game the other player was in. Their game could not be played. Both players insisted on giving the win to the other because it was late. Therefore they both suggested to let the administrators flip a coin and give the win to one of them.

After the flipping the win was given to United States Winter who continued the fighting.

Even though we officially announced it was a tournament where games were to be counted as ladder, some did not follow this rule. Again, we see the lazyness which has been overwhelming when creating a StarGate account - people can't even bother reading the tournament rules which would take a few minutes preparing you for a couple of hours of gaming in the best case. Therefore some players went on playing use map settings mode without having the games counted.

We reached as far as the third round, and at that point it started to become a problem. Canada [pG]Dante was facing the current leader of the ladder, Germany Red[SiN], and the dodging began. Dante was more than 300 points lower than Red[SiN] in the ladder rating and therefore Red chose to forfeit the match. This behavior continued into the fifth round - the semi finals - between [pG]Dante and Spain ArChOn_PaTillOn. PaTillOn insisted on playing use map settings but Dante refused. Meanwhile Netherlands ToT)Strafe( was fighting his way through the opposite side of the brackets, beating his clan mate Poland ToT)Spawn( and Spain Archon_Pelucon (Fk.Kakarotto).

As the finals were to be played, [pG]Dante all of a sudden had to leave. This was right on time because the time was already 04.00 in big parts of Europe and many were getting tired. The finals between Strafe and Dante were dated to continue today, Saturday, 16.00. And from there, it continued. Strafe claimed he was allowed to play use map settings and every game he had played in the tournament was never counted. It was too late to change this the day after, and we were hoping Strafe would agree on playing ladder versus Dante, even though he was a lot lower. The arguing and the insults were replacing each other in something which almost got out of our hands, until Strafe finally accepted to play the finals as official ladder games. More issues occured with BWScanner since Dante did not have it installed, and Strafe did not want to sit and wait in the game while Dante downloaded it...

After some arguing from my side they both agreed on pausing the game and letting Dante install BWScanner. The finals kept on playing after that incident and ended up 1-1 until Strafe says he had to go. Both players agreed on playing "as soon as they could" but no date was given for the last game. We hope to finish it soon and will be back with the results immediately.

We wish to thank the majority of those who participated and showed up on time, and we will give tournaments another chance tonight, in two hours, 21.00 CET. We again like to point out and encourage everyone to read the rules and instructions for everything you do before you participate, before you play, before you apply or before you register to make the events run smooth and the administrators to answer less questions.

This news will be updated once the final game has been played between
Canada Dante[pG] (Veg) and Netherlands ToT)Strafe(.
Final results updateA few hours after the coverage above was published, both players got online again. They argued about starting playing and insults were not rare. The third tournament's channel was dominated by insults from and to both Dante and Strafe. We kicked them several times which calmed them down, but at some point they felt unstoppable. After about two hours of taking turns saying "oh I will be able to play in x minutes", Strafe said we would forfeit because Dante was being too gay about it.

And like this it went on. After exhausting argumentation and kicking, both players were finally connected to BWScanner and in the same game - amazing! United States cancel commentated it like:

Strafe, who had been bragging about this easy win, lost the final game played on Martian Across versus Dante who went all the way up to #7 in the StarGate rankings. Congratulations to Canada [pG]Dante (also known as VeG) who won the tournament.

Both Dante and Strafe were warned for the incident, with the reason repetative use of bad manners. Two warnings on any user will result in a shutdown of their StarGate account. Rules apply to everyone.

Replays to be posted shortly.
