Blizz Mystery-Map Inv. 1

[s]battlenet[/s]

Keep an eye over Battle.net today, an interesting new development is about to start. They have created new maps which in itself is news and we are going to love any input from map makers all over the world. A balanced Broodwar Blizzard map?! Then if this is not enough Blizzard will be holding two invitational tournaments on these maps as we suspected.

The fact that Blizzard is showing an interest in the competitive aspect of gaming is very encouraging news. It also has a series of significant effects. If this trend continues it will only make our community stronger.

Allow us to dream a little. Imagine a Blizzard Pro-Game Team or a Blizzard Pro-gaming League? Imagine more money for playing Starcraft competitively? Imagine a tournament by Blizzard called "Korea vs the World"? Imagine Blizzard making more new balanced maps for a six year old game on a regular basis? How many more years do you think people will be playing Starcraft if these things start to happen? They are all of course but dreams but dreams have a funny way of becoming reality if enough people dream them.

This is our chance to show Blizzard our numbers and interest. We hope the community rallies and shows Blizzard how very much alive we still are and how widespread this game has become. We also want to share this news post in particular with any other starcraft website in the community. Spread the news. We at GosuGamers will of course be covering both these events closely. Here we leave you with Blizzard's official statement.
We would like to thank you for your continued support of the StarCraft fan community through quality news coverage.

On Monday, November 22 we will be launching the website for a series of two StarCraft Mystery-Map Invitational Events. Below follows a brief sneak preview and outline of this event. The event website will be announced on www.Blizzard.com and www.Battle.net late Friday.

In December, the first of these two events will take place featuring a team from Europe against a team from the Americas. Three new maps will be created specifically for this event and won't be released until early December, leaving players only a short time to practice and adapt their strategies to the new maps.

Each team will consist of 5 players and a captain. The players will be some of the strongest and best-known Brood War players on each continent. We will be announcing the team captains and rosters in the coming days.

There will be five best-of-3 matches, with each map played once. The Captains will assume a few basic organizational duties and also act as a replacement in case of a no-show at the time of the event.

Best regards,

Mazor's Update00.26, Mazor: Alright folks, this is not just a joke this is for real. Yes, believe it or not but Blizzard is hosting a StarCraft-tournament. They finally remembered us! What a victory itself. I might have been hanging out too much with Entropy but believe me when I say that the sentence "While in the future we may host some larger-scale StarCraft events" almost made me cry. The remembered sons.

Forbidden bugs!

In the Frequently Asked Question section, one of the questions reads "Which bugs aren't permitted? What other things aren't permitted?". A question which is really suprising since one might have thought Blizzard might correct the bugs themselves but nevertheless, these situations are not allowed and thereby officially considered as bugs of StarCraft:

  • "Peon-unit stacking attacks, observers over towers, allied mines, Terran building crushes of interceptors, and floating unit bug exploits are not permitted. Also any use of hacks, cheats, or 3rd party programs will result in an automatic disqualification."
Read all the information about the tournament at the event's own page at Battle.net, in the links below.
