The total travel time to get here was 25 hours and then straight to bed. The flight had mini-computers though unfortunately not Starcraft, but we owned up every other game that was available. Arriving in Houston and then trying to get to the connection flight to San Francisco was a rush. The five of us,
poGDI, TreK, Clawson, Eriador and myself rushed like little zerglings and when finally getting to the gate 30 minutes too late Clawson realized he had lost his boarding pass so everything got even more delayed.
We made it though, and after sleeping at a shabby inn for one night we made it to the Civic Auditorium where the gaming will take place. It all looked great but they're still doing preparations there. We went straight to the player village which is also nice but it unfortunately included a lot of idling. Idling which forced the computer nerds to socialize and thus, when all the sc-related discussions had come to an end, brought up memory games now also known as "pack daddy's bag". The players discussed matchups amongst each other mostly, though they all have their hidden strategies which they refuse to share with the rest until it's all live.
There are no PC rooms or practising areas here which means that anyone who wants to use Internet or practice for the tournament will have to go a cyber cafe. Too bad that there are no good around, at least not close. The players won't receive access to the tournament PCs until just ten minutes before start of the tournament in order to avoid downloaded or installed programs. They won't have any Internet connections there either for the same and obvious reason.
We met up with Rekrul and Legionnaire who were both above all expectations and truly nice guys! Since Rekrul is not participating in the actual tournament but is, like me and poGDI, a referee (though he is for Need for Speed Underground) we will be sharing rooms. Tournament previews with both of them coming tomorrow.
We today got it confirmed that there will be no 2on2 nation vs nation tournament due to too many complications and lack of interest. This applies to all games and not only Starcraft.
So far not that many Starcraft players have checked-in though we have heard that LG)Darki did not manage to get a VISA either and will have to stay at home. However, Androide[S2] apparantely made it and we're expecting him to get here shortly.
Our digital video camera unfortunately got discharged during the flight but we're charging it during the night and will hopefully be back with video preview interviews and a showmatch between two extremely controversial players - more about that in our update tomorrow or the day after.
Time's running out now on the cafe account but we will do our best to update you more lengthy tomorrow, when we'll also meet up with our favourite doc and SG editor Entropy for the first time!
