Turbo Mania

[s]maps[/s]A new set of maps, that imitate the original map Turbo, to be played in melee mode rather than the original UMS mode. In it you will truly understand the concept of a "hungry map" used by Koreans.

Turbo is an interesting UMS. In it, the construction speeds and upgrade speeds are greatly enhanced. Everything costs much less too. You can end up building huge armies at speeds that cause vertigo. The way the map is designed, you played a free for all, in UMS mode. With equal skill opponents, these games can last forver considering the fact that if you escape death with just one worker you could literally rebuild your army in few minutes and be a threat again. It tends to make very funny outcomes.

Is it a good UMS to play? Well in it you can practice hotkeying production and your macro, but if you play on it too long it will hurt your timing sense and you will find fastest speed infuriatingly slow afterwards. I used to be a fan of turbo but not so much in UMS mode but rather melee mode. This map is terribly fun if you play it under melee with normal rules. In this case you are left with a decent map, and all is melee standard, with one small difference. Each base has very few minerals (300/patch) and gas (2000/base).

This is the extreme example of what Korean call a "HUNGRY" map, i.e. a map with low resources. In it you really have to keep a tight budget and be as cost effective as you can. Terran has the advantage of lifting the cc and zerg the cheaper hatch in this map. Games can be just as fun but despite what many think its is actually your micro that makes great importance. These games last a little shorter than when more minerals are available, for obvious reasons.

Well United States pheer has transformed a series of popular maps, including WCG maps, into Turbo mode with the hungry map idea (not the UMS idea).

The Original Turbo Map
November 6, 1998

Originally designed as a means to test and observe the reactions of prospective battlefield commanders under rapidly changing battlefield conditions, the Arclite Turbo Simulator 2000™ has evolved into a way of life for a section of the military elite. The ATS2000™ duplicates a standard combat environment and then increases the tempo of combat to such a degree that even the most competent officers have trouble keeping up with the ever-changing tide of events. Commanders who can master this simulation will almost certainly be able to dominate their enemies once placed in normal battlefield conditions.
