[s]blizzard[/s]Blizzard often acts mysteriously and makes very odd moves that confuse its endless hordes of fans, myself included. This one made me smile. They are offering a job position for Associate Producer of Tournaments. Now that’s a new one!
These three quotes are particularly news worthy:
"...competitive gamers with a proven professional background in project management are encouraged to apply""Strong understanding of tournament and professional sport rating and ranking systems (such as the ELO system, college football system, etc.)"College football system? Now that one is most amusing. What Blizzard game could this ranking system be applied to? Are they trying to attract applicants with experience as Bookies?"...as well as serving as a liaison for third-party tournament organizers such as the World Cyber Games"Mighty function this job is offering! The potential for this job description detail is not to be underestimated by any possible candidate even if the salary ends up being peanuts.
I find it amusing also how they describe WCG as a “third party tournament organizer.” An analogy would be like Nike calling the Olympics in these terms or calling the New York Times a “news forum.” The lack of vision of Blizzard sometimes baffles me.
WCG will hold so much weight in the online gaming industry in the near future, that game publishers will be fighting their eye balls for the privilege of being able to feature a game in it.
Anyway what is merely amusing news to most of us might just be a golden opportunity to one of our readers. Some one capable with vision could end up postitioning himself/herself very well within Blizzard. Not a bad job offer at all, nice!
