GoodGame creates Swedish E-Sports Federation

goodgame, in cooperation with DreamHack, just announced an initiative they call the Swedish E-Sports Federation. Upon becoming a member, which costs nothing, gamers are promised a wide range of benefits - from licenses to CPL, WSVG and other major events to travel help.

GosuGamers' little eSports brother in Sweden, rakaka.se, announced earlier this morning what would later be announced at DreamHack.se and GoodGame.se: a new attempt to create a Swedish E-Sports Federation is official. Plans have been on the table for years, GosuGamers has learned, and David "G3X" Garpenståhl, new owner of DreamHack, is one of the persons to take the initiative together with GoodGame.

GoodGame, a "nation wide federation with focus on issues related to video and computer games", will through this federation work to make eSports a generally accepted sports, make sure a eSports minister within the federation is appointed, help gamers get pretickets to DreamHack and other major LANs.

Whether or not the federation will get the support by the community it requires is uncertain so far. An already existing company, the Swedish Esports Association, already claims to be the federation despite the fact that they are a company with corporate interests.

Membership will be free and registration has opened for Swedish members today.

The official press release (Swedish) contains a couple of quotes from famous eSports profiles in Sweden. Here's what Angel Munoz, founder and president of CPL, had to say:

"Sweden has been at the forefront of E-sports for many years and we are encouraged by this new initiative that should help elevate the sport’s status and provide pro-gamer benefits. The CPL fully supports this effort and hopes that other western countries launch similar programs to further develop esports at a global scale."

Patrick Wang, CEO for the PGL said:

"Goodgame is important for the further development of esports, especially for those who are part of the gaming community, I wish Goodgame good luck"
