IPL considered for sale

Massive layoffs at IGN is said to not only bring the end to game sites like 1UP and GameSpy but also see IPL change ownership.

The news comes from Vivek Shah, CEO of the Ziff Davis company, owner of IGN and its subsidiary sites 1UP, UGO and GameSpy. According to Shah, IGN will be looking forward to shrinking their focus on a couple of things only, aiming to "simplify and focus". Apparently, this also includes selling the IPL tournament.

"We are actively engaged with parties interested in acquiring IPL. IGN's role going forward will be to broadcast and cover a variety of eSports events," writes Shah in his memo.

The first IPL event first saw light two years ago in April to May 2011 and since then, four more individual and five team leagues have been held under these initials. Right now, the IPL staff are preparing their sixth individual event (scheduled for March 28-31).
