IGN up for auction but IPL safe

After a year of attempted sales, IGN is going up for auction with an asking price of around $100 million.

Investment bank Allen & Co are to help News Corp sell-off IGN. The multi-national conglomerate, owned by Rupert Murdoch purchased IGN in 2005 for $650 million, but is looking to sell the company for less than a 6th of that price. News Corp also purchased UGO last year and absorbed its properties into IGN.

The story run by Wall Street Journal - another News Corp publication - is that IGN was unable to sell during the previous year. However, they paper say that a number of companies have expressed some interest in buying, though News Corp have refused to comment directly.

For esports fans this may sound like worrying news, but a source inside IGN Pro League (IPL) told GosuGamers that the league is under no threat. "It's been going on for over a year," said the source. "It won't affect anything." With IPL 5 on the horizon, the auction shouldn't cast much of a shadow on proceedings.
