Talal Shakerchi Leads Day 1 of the EPT Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller

A total of 38 players paid the whopping six-figure buy-in into the European Poker Tours Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller Event. Five brave souls paid twice that, choosing to re-enter after busting out early. At the end of the day, only 29 players remained, and at the head of the pack was Talal Shakerchi who bagged up 1,165,000 in chips.

Many of those chips came from online nosebleed cash game regular Viktor Blom who busted at the hands of Shakerchi near the end of the day. With blinds at 2,500/5,000/500, Blom put in a min-raise under the gun and was called by Shakerchi and Tom Marchese and the three players saw a flop of 8s-3d-2s. Blom checked and Shakerchi lead out for 17,000 and Marchese folded. Blom check-raised the action to 68,000, which Shakerchi called. The turn brought the 5s and Blom fire 108,000. Shakerchi called and the river came the 6h. Blom fired again for 140,000 and Shakerchi re-raised all-in. Blom hesitated briefly before making the call, tabling QcQd, an overpair. Shakerchi showed As4s for the nut flush.

The nine players eliminated on Day 1 still have the option to re-enter before play begins on Day 2. They include Blom, Leon Tsoukernik, who has already busted twice, Sam Trickett, Govert Metaal, Mike "Timex" McDonald, Artem Litvinov, Gus Hansen, Jason Mercier and Daniel Cates.
