Online Poker Amendment Passes Massachusetts House of Representatives

Gaming legislation that set forth provisions for online poker handily cleared its first step, passing the State House of Representatives with a vote of 123-32.

The original bill has been amended to include language that mandates the state perform further studies on the topic of online poker through a Government commission. The amended bill would “establish a committee to analyze and develop recommendations and model legislation” and “include an analysis of applicable federal and state law.”
The legislation is expected to be passed by the State Senate and ultimately receive the signature of Governor Patrick.

Should the bill pass, it would mark another positive step for the possibility of regulated intrastate poker.
