US Online Players Abroad Featured in Bloomberg Article

Since the actions against the “big three” online poker sites by the US government on an August 15th date that will forever be immortalized as “Black Friday” in the poker industry, many have wondered what would become of the many US native professional online poker players. To the surprise of few, many of the more successful professionals have sought to pursue their profession in locations outside of the Department of Justice’s jurisdiction. More recently, top pros Phil Galfond and Randy “Nanonoko” Lew have made the move and have returned to play on PokerStars.

This exodus of poker professionals was the subject of Bloomberg Business Week article written by Caroline Winter. Featured in the article were Matt Stout and friend Joey Cappuccio, who discuss their initial shock upon hearing the bad news, and their ultimate decision to leave:

“It took me a while to admit to myself that things aren’t going to get resolved anytime soon and that we were eventually gonna have to do something about it,” says Stout, who’s perched on a plaid chair in his new home, laptop in hand, registering for the day’s games. He barely finishes his sentence before Cappuccio, six-foot-three but the quieter of the two, blurts out: “By ‘eventually,’ we meant ‘now.’ ”
