World Poker Tour Steps Up European Tournaments

After several years where the European Poker Tour took center stage in tournament poker in Europe, the World Poker Tour has been adding more tournaments and now is poised to offer four new WPT tournament series, three of whom are based in Europe over the next six months.

World Poker Tour officials released the first half of the World Poker Tour Season X schedule that includes the usual U.S venues such as The Bicycle Casino, Foxwoods, the Borgata and a newly formatted the Legends of Poker tournament series in August, which will feature a re-entry format on Day 1b for players who busted out on Day 1a of the event.

Four new WPT tournaments:

  • July 17 – 21, 2011: WPT Slovenia, in Portorož, Piran, Slovenia –€3,000 + €300 buy-in
  • Sept 20 – Sept 24, 2011: WPT Malta, in Portomaso, St. Julian’s, Malta –€3,200+ €300 buy-in
  • Nov 18 – 22, 2011: WPT Jacksonville, in Jacksonville, Florida — $3,250 + $250 buy-in
  • Dec 1 – 5, 2011: WPT Prague, in Prague, Czech Republic — €3,200 + €300 buy-in

Repeating European tournaments:

  • September 5–10, 2011: WPT Grand Prix de Paris — Aviation Club de France, Pariisi, Ranska, €7,500
  • October 1–6, 2011: WPT Amnéville — Seven Casino, Amnéville, Ranska, €3,500
  • October 24–27, 2011: WPT Marrakech — Casino de Marrakech, Marrakech, Morocco, €3,300

Players will also notice a continued trend to reduce main of the Main Event buy-ins from the traditional $10,000 and $15,000 buy-in tournaments to the newer tournaments featuring buy-ins of around $3,500, with the more established tournaments remaining at $10,000.
