CEREUS Owes Poker Players $54 Million

According to two inside sources at CEREUS, home of Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet, they revealed to Subject:Poker that their total outstanding debt to players is $53.7 million. Unfortunately, their cash on hand is only between $5 and $6 million.

The source went on to say that $24.2 million of this liability is to US player accounts. The number is a much smaller than expected percentage of the total because U.S. players have systematically been trying to move their money to non-US accounts in an attempt to get their money off of the site sooner. The source indicated that those attempts have not been successful.

The $5 million to $6 million figure, already represents the roughly $3 million in severance pay that went to Cereus’ Costa Rican employees when they laid off most of their support staff. Money that was frozen and seized as part of the Black Friday Department of Justice actions is not accounted for at this point and no figure has been officially estimated for how much was in the seized bank accounts.

After much attention on CEREUS in the first month after Black Friday, the focus of attention has shifted to Full Tilt Poker and their troubles in returning player funds. This latest news returns some focus to a company that many players had given up on seeing their funds returned.

Some players had hoped they could get their money out through international players, who had been limited in withdrawing up to $2,000 at a time, but those efforts seems to be stifled now.

The CEREUS network has lost 96% of it's pre-Black Friday traffic and any remaining life for the company is in peril with a large DOJ liability and considerable funds tied up in seized bank accounts.
