Rupert Elder Wins EPT San Remo

Brit Rupert Elder finished on top in the €5,000 buy-in European Poker Tour San Remo main event defeating consecutive EPT runner-up Maximilian Heinzelmann at the Casino San Remo in Italy. Elder won €930,000 and an invitation to the Grand Final and the season ending €100,000 Champion of Champions freeroll in Madrid. It was only the second EPT event that Elder had played in, previously concentrating on online cash games.

The 20-year-old German Max Heinzelmann was the most aggressive player at the final table and fell one card short of winning the title, but his flopped straight couldn't hold against Elder's bottom set which his a full house on the river to double up and cruise to the eventual victory.

The 25-year-old female Canadian player Xuan Liu ran her good run of cards all the way to third for a nice €360,000 payday, one year after her biggest victory in a €1,000 side event for $64,376 also in San Remo. She was the first woman to make a final table of an EPT event this year.

There were 987 entrants who created a €4,786,950 prize pool, slightly down from last year. The top 144 players made the money.

Final table results:

1. Rupert Elder €930,000
2. Max Heinzelmann €600,000
3. Xuan Liu €360,000
4. Max Lykov €290,000
5. Francesco De Vivo €220,000
6. Massimiliano Manigrasso €170,000
7. Costantino Russo €125,000
8. Roberto Spada €81,950

The seventh season of the European Poker Tour will begin in a few days at the Grand Final in Madrid. The tournament series, which will be held at the Gran Casino Madrid, will feature a €25,000 buy-in high roller event, the €10,600 main event and the "Champion of Champions" event which is a €100,000 euro freeroll for previous EPT champions.
