There were 2,404 entries into this special Double Guarantees Week tournament, with many established players having 4-6 entries each. Amazingly, Sowers had two entries still alive when the final table was reached. That necessitated his smaller stack to be automatically awarded 9th place and $28k, and his chips were combined in one stack.
After 11 hours of play, when play reached three handed, the other players mentioned a deal, but Sowers insisted he was there to win.
MoormanI: take a look at numbers?
KagM7F7: id look
SowersUNCC: lets just play
After Sowers insistence to play it out, it was over in two hands. Sowers knocked out Chris "MoormanI" Moorman's 44 with his KK all in before the flop, then Sowers with the big chip lead hit a 3-outer against KagM7F7's AJ with his A6 of diamonds.
Sowers has been doing quite well in live tournaments as well, having finished in fifth at the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure main event for $700k.
