WCG Torch Relay Begins, Sky and Jaedong to Start

World Cyber Games has announced its first four torch bearers for the WCG 2010 Torch Relay. The Torch Relay will run for two and a half months and will start in Chengdu, China and will travel across the world before ending at its journey in Los Angeles, USA.

The first of the four torch bearers have two players representing Blizzard RTS games. Professional gamers Lee 'Jaedong' Jaedong of StarCraft and Li 'Sky' Xiaofeng of WarCraft 3 will be the torch bearers for their respective countries.

Sky's run through China will be the first of the 12 country marathon across the world. His credentials in the WCG are large and close to legendary in terms of the WCG competition. He holds two gold medal finishes and a silver finish in 2007 although he has not taken a medal finish since.

The next torchbearer after Sky is Jaedong of South Korea. As one of the most dominating players to ever grace the television screens in South Korea, Jaedong has only recently made his mark on the WCG scene. He took the gold medal from Stork last year in the WCG Grand Finals after only qualifying in 3rd place during the Korean National Finals the same year.

Currently there are eight countries left which have yet had their torch bearers decided. The only remaining Blizzard RTS gamers left to be voted for are Germany's Anton 'Kolll' Emmerich and Italy's Carlo 'ClouD' Giannacco. Both are notable StarCraft players that have also made their mark on the international stage at the WCG despite the obvious Korean dominance each year.

Any user with a registered account on the official WCG.com website can vote, so be sure to make your voice heard as voting will end near the end of the month. Each user is also allowed one vote per day.

Qualifiers all over the world have also begun in preparations for the Grand Finals taking place in Los Angeles, USA from September 30th to October 3rd 2010. This marks the third time that a WCG Grand Final event has taken place in the United States, all three on the west-coast. The only country to have hosted more Grand Finals is South Korea with a total of four.
