Welcome to another Dota strategic analysis article. This month, in light of current trends, we will be discussing the differences between pushing-oriented strategies and carry-oriented strategies. Throughout this analysis we will define pushing/ganking and carry strategies, examine the pros and cons of each respective strategy and look at the metagame of each. Hopefully, we will provoke discussion in the comments as well.

One important thing to note before we begin is that all strategies are, to one extent or another, pushing strategies, since the game can only be won by pushing. Our main concerns will be examining pushing lineups that peak in the early and mid game and comparing the optimal strategies for an early game lineup with those for a late game team.

As a lot more than the eventual 64 participants of DreamHack Winter's open qualifier signed up to today (rumored to be 300-500), cuts had to be made, resulting in a random among all attendees. The four semi finalists of each bracket will meet the invited FnaticMSI, SK, TS and BX3 in the group stage tomorrow. The Corsair Vengeance Dota 2 Championship of DreamHack Winter will kick off tomorrow with a free for all qualification tournament, whose best four teams recieve a slot in the main tournament on friday. On that occasion, the game was brand new, and most teams were still experimenting with strategies and the limited hero pool.
