Baba becomes the second hero to join Deadlock in ‘City Never Sleeps’ update

Baba’s successful propaganda brings her into Deadlock early.

It was apparently a “close contest”, but Baba has surprisingly reigned supreme in the selection of new Deadlock heroes, beating out popular picks such as Solomon to make an early entry into The Cursed Apple.

She is the second hero after Rat King to join Deadlock in the “City Never Sleeps” update, leaving four more heroes left in the pool: Solomon, Nurse Harrow, Deadman Danny, and Violet.

Deadlock

Release date: TBA (currently in invite-only alpha)

Platforms: PC via Steam

Developer: Valve

Baba in Deadlock: Profile, abilities, more explained

Deadlock’s Baba is your regular ol’ granny who sits on her bench, sips tea, and chats with her pigeons. But everything changes in battle, with her yarn, pot of tea, and loyal pigeons transformed into weapons. Even her bench comes to life as a powerful walking machine.

Here are all of Baba’s abilities:

Threadsap: Throw a thread that follows your crosshair before bursting along its path, stealing Spirit Power from enemies and dealing Spirit Damage. While holding stolen Spirit, Baba deals bonus Spirit Damage with every bullet.

Granny Long Legs: Extends the legs of her bench, granting bonus movement speed, higher jumps, Debuff Resistance, and Melee Resistance. While in this form, she can perform a kick that knocks enemies back, as well as a ground pound that knocks enemies up, slows them and deals Spirit Damage.

Baba’s Brew: Throws a pot of tea that creates a magical effect in a target area. The effect transitions between a barrier, silence and damage over time, while also reducing Spirit Resistance.

Feed the Birds: Drench targets in front of you with bread, applying a stacking slow. When the channel ends, a flock of pigeons bombards the target, dealing Spirit Damage and hexing them into a pigeon.

Baba breaks Deadlock’s concurrent player record

Despite her surprise vote-lead, Baba’s arrival was met with great enthusiasm, pushing Deadlock’s concurrent player count to another all-time peak. SteamDB recorded 238,730 players in Deadlock after she joined the game, several thousand more than the previous peak when the “City Never Sleeps” update first launched.

The update has now welcomed two new heroes, with the next addition depending on player votes. The results are set to be revealed this Friday.
