The games’ own creative teams will help keep both adaptations true to their identity.
Two of Embark Studios’ most popular games are coming to TV and film. 2025 hit extraction shooter ARC Raiders and free-to-play competitive FPS The Finals have both gotten the green light for TV and film adaptations.
According to a report by Variety on Monday (5 October), the projects will be handled by Chernin Entertainment in partnership with Nexon, the parent company of Embark Studios.
“Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing ‘ARC Raiders’ and ‘The Finals’ into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community,” Patrick Söderlund, Embark Studios founder and Nexon executive chairman, said.
Chernin Entertainment is known for its recent film adaptation of the popular horror video game Backrooms, which came out earlier this year and grossed over US$400 million worldwide on a US$10 million budget. Other high-profile projects which Chernin has worked on include Netflix’s 2026 thriller The Last House, as well as the Fear Street trilogy. Chernin is also known for films such as Planet of the Apes and The Greatest Showman.
What will the ARC Raiders and The Finals adaptations be about?
Not much information has been revealed on what the adaptations will be about. However, Söderlund shared that creative teams at Embark Studios will be involved in production “to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats.” This would include the universe each game is set in, and the lore each has established so far.
For ARC Raiders, that could mean returning to the future Earth ravaged by a mysterious mechanised threat called the ARC. As for The Finals, the setting may still very well be its dystopian future in the year 2100, with humans escaping into virtual reality most of the time because of what the real world has become.
Will ARC Raiders or The Finals be a TV or movie adaptation?
The media formats for both projects have not yet been decided or announced. Nexon and Chernin have also not shared a release window for either project.
What’s next for ARC Raiders and The Finals?
ARC Raiders has become one of Embark Studios’ biggest successes since launching in October 2025, selling more than 16 million copies worldwide. The extraction shooter also picked up Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2025, Online Game of the Year at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, and the multiplayer award at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards.
Set on a future Earth overrun by the mysterious mechanised ARC threat, the game sees Raiders venture to the surface to scavenge resources while contending with both machines and other players.
Its biggest content update yet, Frozen Trail, arrives on Wednesday (7 October). Embark is also preparing to test a PvE matchmaking option from 13 to 20 October, giving players the option to take on ARC without having to worry about being gunned down by other Raiders.
