Clair Obscur Expedition 33 director teases that they “may be cooking” DLC

The journey might not be over just yet, if you read between the lines.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been one of 2025’s surprise success stories, winning over players with its nostalgic feel of older JRPGs, combined with a fresh, modern, highly-engaging take on the turn-based combat system, and a deeply moving story. And with the game selling 3.3 million copies in 33 days and still continuing, naturally, fans are already asking the big question: is there more on the way?

So far, the answer has been a mix of coy smiles and careful wordplay rather than anything concrete. Back in May, writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen told a fan on Instagram that the “chances are good” for DLC (as reported by Vice), only to later clarify to the Washington Post that her words were taken out of context and that the team’s main priority remains polishing the base game.

Around the same time, the game’s official Bluesky account gave its own sly wink, mentioning the possibility of “new content” down the road. So fans having been asking: is the DLC coming or not?

Guillaume Broche teases possible Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 DLC

This week, director Guillaume Broche added fresh fuel to the fire in an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays.

When pressed about DLC, Broche kept things vague: “There may be,” he said, before adding that it was “a bit too early to say.” But it was his cheeky follow-up, “We may be cooking,” delivered with a knowing smile, that gave fans the clearest hint yet.

Earlier in the the same interview, Broche also touched on the studio’s wider ambitions, suggesting Expedition 33 is just “one of the stories we want to tell in this franchise.” Whether that means a fully-fledged sequel or an expansion remains up in the air, but it seems clear that Sandfall Interactive isn’t finished with Clair Obscur just yet.

That said, patience will likely be key. Broche has previously stated in an interview with Automaton that he doesn’t intend to dramatically scale up the team at Sandfall Interactive, preferring to keep the studio small and focused. If a DLC is indeed “cooking,” it may simmer for a while before being served.

For now, fans will have to keep poring over every sly comment, wink, and smile, hoping that Expedition 33’s story doesn't end here.
