Path of Exile 2's The Third Edict expansion lands next week with Act 4 and free trial

Path of Exile 2 is dropping a massive expansion next week.

Path of Exile 2 is officially launching The Third Edict, a massive content expansion, next week. The game is still in early access, but this expansion adds Act 4 and three new mini Acts to keep players busy. More gameplay changes, including the addition of asynchronous trading, are also coming.

Watch the trailer below:

Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict adds Act 4 content

Path of Exile 2’s latest content expansion, the Third Edict, adds all-new story content in the form of Act 4. This Act sees players head over to the Ngamakanui archipelago, where eight islands’ worth of horrors await them. Players will be able to visit the islands in any order they like throughout the non-linear story.

Alongside the new Act, Grinding Gear Games is replacing Cruel difficulty with a new slate of content for players to progress through in between new content drops. These are called Interludes, three mini Acts comprising a set of side stories, with 19 new areas and nine new bosses. This will allow players to progress towards the endgame without replaying other content.

More new Path of Exile 2 content

The Third Edict’s content drop also adds an exclusive Path of Exile 2 League, which has players slay hordes of monsters to gain access to an Abyssal Trove. A new support gem system is also coming to allow players to experiment with their builds, featuring new support gem levels.

Other additions include a sprinting ability, crafting changes, new Unique items, endgame changes, and most importantly, asynchronous trade. The Path of Exile 2 playerbase has long requested a proper trading system, and now they’re getting it; players can finally purchase items from each other without the seller needing to be online. Check out all of the expansion's new changes here.

Path of Exile 2 free trial weekend

Path of Exile 2 is also holding a free weekend to allow all newcomers to try out the game without an Early Access key. The free trial runs from 29 August to 1 September.

Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict launches on 29 August, 2025.
