Black Myth Wukong developer reveals sequel following "ghost-catching god" Zhong Kui

Black Myth: Wukong is getting a sequel.

Game developer Game Science has officially announced Black Myth: Zhong Kui, its upcoming sequel to the widely-acclaimed action-RPG Black Myth: Wukong. At Gamescom Opening Night Live, host Geoff Keighley also teased that the latter game might be getting some form of continuation in the future.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui announced as Black Myth: Wukong sequel

Game Science is officially turning Black Myth: Wukong into a franchise, adapting icons from Chinese mythology in every entry. While the first game followed the story of Sun Wukong, its follow-up will tell the story of Zhong Kui. Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley described the new protagonist as “the ghost-catching god who wanders between hell and earth."

Game Science provided the following tease for the game's story in a YouTube description:

"No ghosts walked the earth till born of human heart;

Onstage and off, immortals fall to fiends—their perfected art.

Indoors and out, the judge is bound by the same household ties;

The sun is veiled, the moon unmoved—who decrees who lives and who dies?

I turn from worldly tangles and their codes, from glories smeared with sleight.

I raise my sword—I raise it to fight;

With it, I shall judge wrong and right!"

Black Myth: Zhong Kui is described as the second entry in the Black Myth series, and will be a single-player action-RPG much like its predecessor. The game is currently in early development, according to Game Science, and thus has no in-game footage available to show.

During the game’s announcement, Keighley also noted that fans of the first game can rest assured that “the westward journey won’t end here either.” That could signal a possible continuation of Sun Wukong’s adventures via DLC, or a brand-new game adapting the Journey to the West tale.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui has no release date.
