Nintendo has unveiled a release date for the next Hyrule Warriors game.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a new The Legend of Zelda game later this year… of sorts. During this week’s Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo confirmed that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is launching this winter with a short trailer. The trailer featured story cutscenes from the title, along with brief snippets of its action-packed gameplay.

Here’s Nintendo’s description of the spin-off game:

Experience The Imprisoning War that ultimately led to the events of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, the latest canonical tale from Hyrule’s distant past.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment technically takes place alongside Link’s adventures in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, following Zelda as she was transported back in time. Her task is to stop Ganondorf from invading an early-era Hyrule.

Unlike Tears of the Kingdom, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment employs hack-and-slash combat to weave a new tale in the Legend of Zelda franchise. The game, which is the third in the Hyrule Warrior series, is heavily inspired by the gameplay of Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors franchise.
