BlizzCon will skip 2025 in favour of a new show next year.
Blizzard Entertainment is bringing BlizzCon back in 2026. The game publisher’s once-annual gaming convention will only return in full force after skipping two years in a row (its last event was in 2023), notably opting against celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The event will return with more panels, an Opening Ceremony rife with announcements, hands-on gameplay and more.
The announcement was accompanied with a trailer, which has sparked rumours of a Heroes of the Storm revival online:
BlizzCon will return in 2026, but is Heroes of the Storm coming back too?
Blizzard Entertainment will not hold its annual BlizzCon convention this year, which marks the first time it has skipped two years in a row. However, the event is now slated to return on 12 and 13 September, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, America. Its location shouldn’t come as much of a surprise – all BlizzCon events have been held at the Anaheim Convention Center since their very inception in 2005.
While Blizzard is skipping an event in 2025, it’s promising a big show “worthy of our community” in 2026, according to an official blog post. The 2026 event will feature BlizzCon staples like the “Opening Ceremony, in-depth panels, the Darkmoon Faire, friendly competition, hands-on gameplay, and more,” though the games featured in these events have obviously not been revealed yet.
“We are building this event just like we build our games: with a deep commitment to our players, with respect for your connections to our universes, and as a celebration of the strength of the bonds formed through shared adventure,” Blizzard stated in the announcement post.
A teaser for the event has also sparked unexpected rumours of a potential Heroes of the Storm revival. The teaser features a voiceover from Hearthstone’s Lady in White, saying “What was lost can be found again.” It’s a rather obscure pick to throw into a trailer for BlizzCon, and there are two ways for fans to read into its inclusion: either BlizzCon was lost and will soon be found again, or a Blizzard project that was once lost will be found again.
It’s a stretch, but that hasn’t kept Heroes of the Storm fans from flooding comment threads related to this announcement screaming about a revival. We’ll only find out if all this speculation pays off when BlizzCon goes live from September 12-13, 2026.
