What we are playing this week: New week, new games

New games or more Zenless Zone Zero? Choices, choices.

It’s the second week of July already? How can that be, when it was January just two weeks ago? The passing of time might make us older and stranger, but it does have its perks; every new week gives us new games, new TV shows to binge and new movies to catch on the biggest screens possible. Yes, we are all getting older. Eventually, you will look forward to a movie you will never get to see. Someday, you’ll boot up Dota 2 for the very last time.

But let’s not focus on that day. Let’s focus on this week, a new week filled with bountiful possibilities, and just a few new videogames to play.

What are we playing?

Turn-based roguelike Darkest Dungeon 2 finally hits consoles on July 15, bringing players to a decaying landscape filled with hellish monsters as they quest to save the world. If you’re looking for an addictive challenge, this game will certainly do the trick.

If you’re a big Disney and Mario Kart fan, the mash-up you’ve been looking for launches on iOS and Android platforms on July 11. Disney Speedstorm features multiple characters from the world of Disney and Pixar, using karts to race on tracks themed after Disney movies.

I would be remiss to go without mentioning Zenless Zone Zero here, as well. Despite having launched last week, it’s unlikely that we’ll be done with it anytime soon. The gacha game has multiple characters to grind for and plenty of story content to play through, and more content is definitely on the way. If you suffered from bad luck during your first few pulls, never fear - your time will come. Eventually.

What are we watching?

On July 10, an Apple TV+ show with a Black Mirror-like premise makes its debut. Sunny follows Suzie (Rashida Jones), whose life becomes upended when her family vanishes in a mysterious plane crash. To cope with her grief, she is given a companion robot named Sunny. The two begin to develop an unexpected friendship, only to discover that there might be a darker conspiracy at the heart of her family’s disappearance.

This week, the buzzworthy horror movie Longlegs also hits theatres. Longlegs follows an FBI agent named Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) in the 1990s, as she gets assigned to work on an unsolved case that involves a serial killer named Longlegs (Nicolas Cage). Things get more complicated - and spooky - when she realises that she has a personal link to the killer.
