Global Esports Games inaugural edition to kick off this Saturday in Singapore

Over 100 players from over 40 countries are set to compete at the inaugural Singapore 2021 Global Esports Games.

Scheduled to unfold over this coming weekend, December 18-19 at the Resorts World Sentosa from Singapore, Global Esports Games, GEG in short, is the flagship event of the Global Esports Federation (GEF) and it will feature competitions for Dota 2 with two separate tournaments, Street Fighter V and eFootball 2022.

Esports enthusiasts will be able to attend the event in person this weekend and witness hundreds of athletes from 48 countries and territories fighting for the first medals of GEG.

For Dota 2, the competitions will be held on December 18 with four women teams fighting for the GEG medals and on the 19th of December with four male teams. The women's teams represent Great Britain, Paraguay, Mongolia and Singapore, while the male teams are from Brazil, Singapore, Mongolia and Great Britain.

Street Fighter V competition will feature a total of 22 players coming from as many countries, all competing on Sunday, December 19 at Resorts World Sentosa.

Saturday, December 18, the eFootball 2022 Champion will be decided from a line-up of 30 players.
 

2021 Singapore GEG schedule

 

With a mission to grow competition along with developing communities and the connection between sport, esports and technology, the GEF cultivates the authentic voice for worldwide esports.

Therefore, in parallel to multi-title esports competition, the GEG also features a three week GEFestival, which started at the beginning of the month, bringing esports, gaming, music, art, and technology together through a series of community competitions, the premiere of a specially curated documentary, music and art showcases that celebrate the youth culture.

Together with the National Youth Council and Singapore Esports Association, Global Esports Federation pioneered the Esports Youth Programme for 100 youngsters in Singapore to experience the inner workings of the esports ecosystem. This is a 35-hour experiential program with industry leaders and content creators hosting engaging and educational workshops on industry secrets.

The Singapore 2021 Global Esports Games marks a historic first for the Global Esports Federation as our dynamic esports community convenes and competes in-person in our world headquarters, Singapore – where we launched exactly two years ago. It is an exciting new chapter in our #worldconnected journey.  

Following Singapore 2021, the Global Esports Games heads to Istanbul in 2022, and Riyadh in 2023. At its Board meeting held here in Singapore this week – the GEF will elect a further cohort of host countries – firmly establishing the flagship event on the annual calendar and the global stage

GEG will commence with an immersive opening ceremony featuring a dynamic blend of live and virtual experiences set to entertain esports fans on the 18th of December.

“Fans and audiences will be treated to an augmented reality experience during parts of the ceremony, including the national anthem presentation, as well as during the key showcase of the event. The launch sequence of the ceremony highlights the core values that drive the GEF – equality, fair play, diversity, inclusion, and innovation,” says GEF in their official announcement.
