GSL May Code S Ro8 Day 2 Reports

Match 1 TSL_Killer vs oGsInCa

Game 1 @ Tal'Darim Altar

The first game of the day started off with what 95% of all Protoss versus Protoss matches start off with, a 4gate opening from both players. However, InCa would be able to sneak a Pylon in a key area between Killer's natural expansions. This Pylon would give InCa's warped in army a good position on Killer's initial army which was in the middle of the map. Killer is then forced back into his own base as InCa kept warping in more and more Stalkers and Zealots. After sniping off a few Probes while pushing into Killer's base, InCa slowly solidified his lead and took the first game.

Game 2 @ Terminus RE

The second game had Killer open up with a 3 Stalker rush which was barely blocked by InCa. A Sentry warps in just in time to stop a squad of five Stalkers walking up InCa's ramp. The rush does a bit of damage to InCa's defences, but as Killer was trying to break through the ramp InCa decided to fast expand to the 3 o'clock main. Killer has no idea that InCa expanded so early in the game and his play would be indicative of this. Both players sat in their bases to macro up and transitioned to Colossi. Killer scouted InCa's base several times and found no expansion and sat quite comfortably thinking that his expansion gave him the lead. Once it came time for the two armies to fight, InCa would barge in through Killer's front door and crush him. At first Killer defended quite well, but the 6 warpgates off of InCa's two base was just too much for Killer to handle. The second game would go to InCa as well.

Game 3 @ Xel'Naga Caverns

Showing his ingenuity, InCa attempts to take the match quickly with a well thought out cannon rush into Killer's base. As his probe reached Killer's base, InCa pooled just enough minerals for three Pylons and walls in a perfect area behind Killer's mineral line. Killer would be forced to build a Nexus at his natural, but was slightly behind InCa who was transitioning to a 4gate. In the end, despite Killer's best efforts, InCa would take the match.

Match 1 IMNesTea anyproPrime.WE

Game 1 @ Dual Site

NesTea showed an amazing strategy in this game that is worth watching for any Zerg. anypro opened with a fast expand and that was the perfect opening for NesTea to try this new strategy. After getting his expansion up, NesTea went for an early Lair which bedazzled even the casting Archon, Tastosis. It wasn't until that three Drones and two Overlords were parked outside anypro's natural that NesTea's plan was revealed. With his Lair finished, NesTea's Overlords would begin spitting creep onto the ground in front of anypro's natural and the Drones started morphing into Spine Crawlers. The crowd and the two casters went crazy as this happened. The cannons behind anypro's wall were useless as the spines finished and started taking down anypro's Nexus. Voidrays eventually popped out for anypro, but they were too late to save the Nexus at his natural. NesTea switched to Hydralisk tech quite easily with his Lair being done so early and it would only be a matter of time before the Hydralisks went knocking on anypro's door. The initial Hydralisk push by NesTea took out anypro's natural for the second time in the game, but was pushed back. anypro doesn't recover from falling behind early in the game and eventually falls to a massive ling and hydra attack by NesTea.

Game 2 @ Metalopolis

Despite a crushing loss in game 1 with his fast expand strategy, anypro opened with another fast expansion into Stargate build. NesTea didn't use the same opening as last game, but instead played pretty standard for a while. A single Voidray came on to the map for anypro and gave him some pretty good map control as he sat comfortably on two bases. What he didn't expect was an all-in hydra and ling bust to come from NesTea. NesTea stopped his Drone production and just massed a large army of Hydralisks and speedlings. By the time anypro saw the army coming, it was too late. The bust completely decimates any defence that anypro had and NesTea would take game 2.

Game 3 @ Crossfire

anypro started game 3 hoping to go an early Stargate build, but made a monumental mistake in allowing a scouting Zergling into his base to discover the building Stargate. After killing off the Zergling anypro decides to go a 3gate expand instead. After establishing his natural, anypro warped in not one, but two Stargates. In return, NesTea responded with Hydralisks after discovering the fleet of air units that anypro had. NesTea felt confident that the previous strategy from game 2 would work again, but this wasn't so. Waves and waves of Hydralisks attacked anypro, but time and time again they were destroyed. A large number of Phoenixes were to be thanked as they surprisingly were very effective against the Hydralisks, coupled with the Protoss tier 1 army. With enough Phoenixes to pick up a large number of Hydralisks at a single time, the Hydralisks were made swift work of. The large waves of Hydralisks kept NesTea on two bases and a very low economy. NesTea fell behind in supply considerably as the game went on. Eventually his army would fall in the final battle of the game and anypro takes game 2.

Game 4 @ Terminus RE

The fourth game of the match started off quite slowly for both players as they macro'd up. After his success with air units in game 3, anypro decided to go double Stargate once again. NesTea on the other hand would go for a less common Zerg strategy against a walled in Protoss player on two bases. Artosis joked about how NesTea could go a Baneling and Corruptor build which was a hilarious composition, but NesTea made him swallow his words. This in fact was exactly what NesTea went for and it was very effective. The Corruptors were a perfect counter to anypro's fleet of air units while the Banelings helped bust into anypro's natural and took out a large number of Probes. NesTea applied constant pressure with his Banelings and speedlings, but the game wasn't over until the Corruptors morphed into Broodlords. At that point there was nothing for anypro to do except type gg. NesTea took the match with a final score of 3-1.
