Darvin Moon Signs Sponsorship Deal With Heartland Poker Tour

World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up Darvin Moon signs sponsorship deal with the Heartland Poker Tour. The 47 year-old Maryland logger created a unique persona in his second place finish to Joe Cada at the 2009 WSOP. The decision was somewhat surprising because Moon refused any prior sponsorship deals, turning down offers of over half a million dollars for wearing a logo or patch at the final table of the WSOP.

Moon happily wore his New Orleans hat and struck a cord with those sick of the commercialization of every aspect of our society.
“I’m self employed and I don’t want a boss. I don’t want anybody telling me you need to do this or you need to do that. If I would sign with them guys we’d be in a lawsuit within a month because they’d want me to do something and I wouldn’t do it.”

Apparently the feeling of representing the Heartland Poker Tour, a series that specializes in arranging tournaments with affordable buy-ins, as well as running satellites to many bigger events, was different.

It is perhaps the Heartland Poker Tour’s down-to-earth approach to tournaments which helped him change his mind.
Moon said “I’m very comfortable with the HPT folks. They’re like family.”
HPT President Todd Anderson added: “Darvin is our kind of guy. He’s worked hard his entire life and now lives the dream that attracts so many to the game.”

Expect to see more of Darvin Moon now, wearing HPT gear at all his future tournaments, including the WSOP.
