GosuGamers HoN Awards 2010: Best Team

It's been an end to HoN's 1st year since it's official release. And as usual GosuGamers presents our annual awards to celebrate the honourable efforts of both teams and individuals that stood out in 2010. This is the 1st out of 7 articles showcasing the nominees of the 1st category - the best team.

Nominees for Best Team 2010:

UnitedStates Evil Geniuses [EG]

One would have a hard time arguing that another team had a better year than Evil Geniuses, with them dominating the scene since beta and up til now remaining easily top 2 in the world. Players like FujiApples, bkid and Dodo have shown that they can step up their game big time when star player chu went inactive mid year, and will the team finally respond to their 0-3 wake-up calls against MSI is the real question. Hopefully the boys from the world's former #1 undisputed team will be able to rediscover their competitive immortality in the wake of 2011 and the HoN World Cup Finals with $10 000 on the line.

Europe FnaticMSI [MSI]

Over the year, Fnatic has truly showed it's evolution from a team that was good to a team that is as of now in hot form, with their only loss coming from a GameReplays Final against a mix team of North American players. Even though as a fan of Fnatic's 1st class one might be missing familiar names such as Rexi and DuQi, it is near impossible to argue that the introduction of the inFlux Gaming trio worked out for the better as the new lineup conquered DreamHack Winter with near 0 competition. They are also already in the HoN World Cup grand finals 1-0 up against whoever they will face after they beat EG in what was the most overhyped game of 2010. The vote for the best team of 2010 will easily be a 2 horse race between them and Evil Geniuses. Personally I don't see any other team having a realistic chance of winning it.

UnitedStates SK Gaming [SK]

Having dominated the scene along with WHP as 5 in beta, if one were to look at the past results of beta tournaments the credits between the 2 teams tends to be mirrored. The team took a big hit mid year when se`busca and china left, followed by Testie's inactivity. However, the team has shown great signs of recovery as of late. Coupled with Evil Geniuses's current 0-3 streak who knows, maybe SK might be able to pull a major upset en route to the grand final? If star player Testie recovers to his beta self and new additions CarDinaL and Tralfamadore keep up with their recent performances against DWi the future looks bright for the team.

Canada Deal With it [DWi]

DWi was at one point the closest rival to Evil Geniuses (known as Loaded back then). Having lost 2 core players EternalEnvy and AMXZaku, the team has recovered well by picking up solo player KiWiKiD follwing Tease em's disbandment. The team plays well to their strengths, as shown by their run in the World Cup Loser's Bracket, unleashing the power of melee hard carries on many. Easily the closest US team to toppling EG since se`busca left 5.

USA World Cup Qualifiers 1st runner-up

Germany Online Kingdom [OK]

A team that's way past it's peak at the moment due to roster issues, the team's golden age was during DreamHack Summer, when it triumphed over bitter rivals FnaticMSI as KD Gaming eV. It will be hard filling the shoes of the likes of H4nn1, LevenT and Kebap. One can only hope that Mag1X and co. manage to do so. Had the old KDe continued as a team, chances are we'll have a top 3 instead of the top 2 at the moment.

Roster Biggest accomplishments
Germany Mag1X (Captain)
Sweden Akke
Poland Overpow
UnitedKingdom HenryD
DreamHack Summer Champions
Fnatic PLAY tournament 3rd place
ESL May and March Champion
East Europe World Cup Qualifier Champion
