Introducing Battlegrounds

From left to right: bozz, stress ,Rishyani, TT^FU and ishiness

Its Interview-time again on GosuGamers! This time with the captain of the philippine attender Battlegrounds, the team which came into the ADC by winning the national qualifiers of their country. TT^FU kindly volunteered, to answer all our questions about BG, the season and DotA in his home country!

Hello Sherwin, please introduce your team and yourself to our readers and describe the role-distribution a bit.
-“Hello Im Sherwin Giray, 23 years old and the captain of Battlegrounds. We are from the Philippines and still new in international online tournaments, but hope to improve ourselves throughout the events.
Our team consists of paski, Rishyani, cloud, bozzy, stress and myself TT^FU. Paski and cloud are our supporters, bozzy plays semi-carry and Ryshiani and stress fill the part of the more carry-orientated roles. As for myself, I would describe me an Allrounder, as I generally either take whats left, or currently needs to be played.”

For how long have you been playing together?
-“Half a year ago, if I remember correctly; I played for another team back then. BG was in the middle of an important tournament and lacked one player, so they asked me to join them. Our first few games went well, thats why I accepted the offer. We have been together ever since.”

Implementing the new heroes wouldn't change the games for the better at the moment.
How did you end up playing in the ADC? what qualification stages did you have to go through?
-“In the beginning, we were just one participant in the philippine qualifier and to tell you the truth, we didnt really expect to end up winning this thing, since there were so many strong teams around. But we did and now we are here.”

What are your impressions of the tourney? How is the organisation and your opponents?
-“It’s very challenging to play, especially with all the asian top teams in the tournament. Playing against your idols is very enjoyable! I mean I was just watching their replays not a long time ago. Being able to play them now is almost a bit unreal although I hope, to face them in an offline event one time, since playing with lag and delay can be a bit annoying once in a while.”

Speaking of idols, is there any other team you admire, and why?
-“I really admire LGD.sGty, ever since back then when 2009 was still playing. Especially their teamwork impressed me; simply fantastic!”

ADC uses v6.68c in standard -cm mode. Whats your opinion on the new heroes? Would you have liked them to be allowed in the tournament, or is it better as it is, without them.
-“I think the gameplay is nicely balanced in 6.68c. It’s also a rather gank-orientated map with interesting Tri-lane battles, which I really like. Concerning the new heroes, I believe its better without them, because the current map works just fine, as it rewards both skills in drafting and teamwork. Implementing the new heroes now, wouldn't change the games for the better in my opinion."

How are you preparing for a Dota match?
-“We regularly watch some replays of our forthcoming opponents and prepare two to three fitting strategies.”

After going over your replays, I saw you using Chen quite a bit thus far. What's your thought behind putting him to use?
-“Chen is a great hero in early phases, due to his ability of gaining lanecontrol through surprising ganks. Since roaming and jungling are the main objects to aim for when playing him, warding becomes a smaller problem as well. We tend to use him from time to time, should our opponents decide to leave him available. I must say though, that its hard playing him under lags and delay. Then he becomes a bigger liability to your lineup and strategy, compared to most of the other heroes.”

What are your goals for ADC? A certain placing, or just collecting experience.
-“We’ll try to finish somewhere among the best twelve at least, but that will be difficult enough considering the mentioned 'online'-problems.”

Besides ADC, are there any other leagues or tournaments you are playing in?
-“As for international events, we participated in RGC, where we got eliminated and WDC, where we just past the first round. Nationally, we regularly attend PDEC and the LAN tourneys from Mineski-Infinity.”

Speaking of national, the philippine DotA scene should have quite something to offer. would you describe it a bit? is DotA the most popular game in your country?
-“Yes here in the Philippines it is. We have a monthly LAN tourney called AMPGL, hosted for all regional teams, to put more effort and focus into competitive gaming. This event will also send one team to SMM, representing our country.”

I really admire LGD.sGty! Their teamwork is simply fantastic
Whats the atmosphere like? Is it enjoyable to play there?
-“Yes its very cool! Mineski gaming is the organisation, handling all major DotA-events here in the Philippines. The people there are the ones responsible for promoting and improving DotA in our country and I would like to thank them for that, especially Rhom.” *smiles*

About the teams. Approximately how many are there playing competitively and on a regular base. Whats your relationship to them. Is there room for friendship between the tournaments?
-“Yes of course. The best teams who also show the most activity in LAN- and online-events are Mineski-Infinity, Mineski Grounds, Happy Feet, Execration, Roccat.Prime and ourselves BattleGrounds.”

Do you have any plans for your DotA-future?
-“My goal is to become champion here in the Philippines and making it as high as possible internationally, preferably with some good placements on LANs.” *smiles*

Thanks for the Interview Sherwin, the space below is for you. Any final words or shoutouts?
-“Special greetings to my team BattleGrounds, our manager Kua Mao and all our supporters, friends and haters. We are hoping to fill the gap of adjustments in our team and practicing para maging no 1 sa pinas ay hinde sa buong mundo pala!!! CHINAAAAAA" *laughes*
