Replay Review & Analysis:

MYM Prime Defending #12: Group A
China LGD.sGty vs Vietnam StarsBoba (Game 2)

Draft:

Bans:
It comes as no surprise that SB bans Windrunner and Visage. LGD plays best with these two heroes. Besides the dual/trilane choice, Visage and WR could go solo. As we all know, WR has a stun that can bind two heroes for quite a significant period of time and has one of the best escaping skills. WR's ulti as well as Visage's Gargoyles provide great pushing damage. Less worries for SB after banning them. Brood is banned as she could solo any lane with her web that gives her regeneration, invisibility, and movement speed. She could punch a hole
in your base within minutes. This hero is a no-go for SB as they knew they could not handle her. After learning their mistakes in game #1, SB bans SF for his fast level and item gain ability.

Lets take look at LGD.sGty's bans. LGD preferred to ban Pugna and Enigma, the pushing machines. Pugna's nether ward will slow down movements in battle as opponent needs to find and destroy it first. Positioning and movements are important elements in DotA, as in big battles, it influences the outcome of the game. As usual , for the Chinese, enigma's black hole could misplace heroes and disrupt battles. Moreover, enigma could go forest, leaving other mates to solo,
pumping level and item faster. Since LGD banned alchemist, tanker of choice, with his large AOE acid spray, we could see that LGD is going to pick low-damage output heroes, not boring Medusa/Drow. Since lion is rated #2 behind SF as one
of the best solo mid heroes, LGD bans it.

Picks:
LGD got the upper hand for firstpick. They exploited it by grabbing Doom. This hero can be played in a lot of different ways, has high health pool and movement speed, devour which gives extra not to mention his ulti, that can shut down
any hero in small or large fights. SB secures VS and WD, both are good gankers and supporters with bonus buff auras. SB will be going for some dual or trilane soon. LGD replies by taking CM and Seer. CM fills the supporter
slot for LGD as a mana provider for her mates, while here we could easily guess that seer is going to be played by YYF and is going to be a solo lane. Similar to WR, his surge and vacuum give him a good escaping ability and he could even farm
against ranged heroes, with his ion shell. Not to mention, his base-str gives him better survivability. In response, SB goes with Slardar and Morphling. Now it is easy to predict that Slardar is going with VS and WD, a triple stun lane which is very effective. Slardar is a good semi-tanker, has Sprint to counter/chase seer. Morphling could go solo , getting fast items and raping later on in the game, as a carry should do. LGD finalizes their list with Storm and Venomancer. Storm soloing mid , getting runes plus his ulti makes him a good ganker. With BKB, storm could easily trash out one or two paper-made supporters in battles. Venomancer who has high str compared to other supporters, was picked for his annoying plague wards, whose low mana cost allow them to be spammed throughout the game. Venomancer is also picked to counter WD's heal and Morphling's agi-str convert skill with his ulti. SB then picks Furion, once again trying to work out their ganking strat. From what we can clearly see, SB will be playing a trilane by adding furion's ganking and global ulti, allowing their morph to farm to secure late game. On the other hand, LGD has large AOE skills in the from CM , Venomancer , and Seer.

Players, Heroes and Lanes:

SB puts furion at mid , facing storm. Furion is expected to gain levels faster to enable him to gank with his teleportation. As for storm, he will surely go mid, with good timing and good runes, he can gank either top or bottom lanes. As for top lane, SB goes trilane with doc, vs and slardar as expected. This triple stun lane is very effective as both WD and VS could simply initiate with their long-ranged stun skills, followed by Slardar's crush. Adding that slardar has bought a stout shield early on, he could tank longer. LGD puts doom, cm and veno top, kinda unusual lane with an odd outcome. For bottom lane, Morphling solos and farm and gain level. Seer is going down, as we mentioned earlier, he could solo due to his great escaping skill and farming safely from a distance.

What happened in game:

As the heroes move out as usual, peeping at rune spots. All of LGD except for storm, goes top, predicting that SB will gank them. A small engaged happened at the river whereby Slardar claim's first blood on Venomancer's head just as creeps start to spawn.

During the 'warm-up' battle, CM, VS and Veno die. Doom chases WD uphill, while Slardar and vs teleport in asap after reviving to assist top. Nice block by slardar results in doom's death. Seer farms in woods. With the extra gold,
Slardar gets a Basilius for extra armor and aura to enhance allies armor. 2009's storm faces Soso. On's Furion on mid. After the 1st game, LGD spotted the weaknesses in SB's Carry player, thus leaving bottom lane empty for awhile, allowing Morphling to farm as much as he could. In exchange, seer went top, assisting top lane to advance in level. However, SB continues to play aggressively by killing Veno at the 2 minute mark. Seer then goes bottom to stop Morph's free-farm. As for YYF , it is no problem for him to run top and bottom simultaneously to aid his mates and at the same time, defending bottom lane. As Furion approaches lvl3 and 4, Furion ganks top, increasing their hero kill score.
Score is now SB 6 : 2 LGD.sGty Both SB and LGD warded top rune spot as bottom's hero will less likely to take runes. As LGD wards top lane, SB wards in top scourge woods, gaining extra lane vision. Perfect gank again by Furion with his mates, raping cm in the woods.

With urn in hand, Furion ganks top again. An unworthy trade off of doom for Witch Doctor is made. SB leads the game with score of
8 : 3 . Doom acquires haste at 6th minute, intending to gank Furion but Furion is one step ahead, teleporting top lane and ganking again! Storm back up as quickly as doom sprints towards top.

Slardar manages to escape, leaving VS and Veno dead. VS immediately returns to top after revival and kills storm but is slayed by Doom in the end. The drama provides Morph ample time to farm. LGD pushes mid, taking down mid tower.

SB gambles with time with their mid tower, they go top hunting doom but fail due to high movement speed from phase boots. LGD's quick aid turned the table by winning the battle and the sore is now balanced. SB 11 - 10 LGD
They continue pushing top. Knowing that top is bound to fall, SB ends seer's killing spree at bot lane. Strong enough to take down the tower alone, Veno spams plague wards while storm covers him . As expected, Morph teleports top, ending up being ganked by the patient storm, while at mid 4 SB heroes kill doom and earn the tower as well.

Game goes on as LGD farms. Several ganks happen around the map by both teams. Slardar then gets his dagger while doom has his vanguard and morph finishes his Yasha. This is where it gets intense, SB ganks top, tower dives, killing seer. Seer did a nice vacuum before he was sent home, contributing to the death of Slardar, WD and VS to LGD.

Meanwhile, Furion manages to pawn storm, Veno jukes morph and escapes. Doom now has an orb, and seer a VG. Looks like LGD is pumping their hero vitality. Then, at top once again, storm with a good positioning ends the battle
with a Triple Kill!

Score is now SB 16 - 19 LGD . LGD's constant push causes morph to defend, giving him a hard time farming. The impatient storm initiates an improper skirmish, causing scattered and unorganized battles to occur. Nice move by vs
swapping morph downhill and finishing doom with his magic missle.

LGD retreats from mid as SB chases on, then both teams head top to save each other's teammates, engaging in battle once again. Great fight by both teams. Too bad SB spilled the beans this time.

Sooner, LGD went on bottom and goes for Roshan, SB tries to interupt. Great wall by Seer a.k.a YYF, managing to kill two heroes with his illusions (wall of replica).

Storm acquires aegis. As smart as always, knowing that SB's total damage output is too low besides morph, LGD goes for defensive items on each of their heroes. They push mid.

LGD is in the lead with score LGD 30 - 21 SB, after several small fights. Minor ganks and push continue to occur around the map. From top, storm then unites with his team, grabbing bottom's tower and catching morph. Morph gets doomed. Once again, as Furion teleported into the wrong spot, a perfect combination of freezing field and vacuum adding to Doom's scorched earth in an extremely narrow battlefield puts team SB out of their misery.

LGD proceeds to break bottom, then mid. SB defends with their last breathe but LGD's defensive item build is just too much. LGD rapes SB hard in every teamfight since mid-game. SB calls GG. Game #2 ends with a score of 24/43,
leaving LGD.sGty victorious. The massacre proves LGD is always better, LGD proceeds to the next stage.

End Game Scoreboard:

Summary of Item-build & Game Play Explanation:
Since he was awarded with extra 200 gold, Slardar went for Basilius, increasing allies' armor, to tank better so that their creeps could push. This was to force LGD's top lane heroes to move back, way behind tower to allow Furion to gank them easier without tower protection. Furion tries to get orchid, in order to stop storm. However, it is difficult for Furion to do so as he is rather weak in farming. If furion had managed to get orchid and hadn't fed earlier, he could have just thrashed storm in any way before storm gets stronger.

Another highlight here is LGD's seer, played by YYF. He did extremely well
in this game, running between top and bot lane. He aids his mates and he farms at the same time. Seer really proves his usefulness in this game. With surge, he can just simply go bot lane and ion shell an allied creep, farming batches of enemy
creeps and go on helping other mates. As the game is filled with simultaneous ganks especially on top lane, most of the fights go in the favor of LGD. It is clearly shown from Morphling solo farming most of the time, leaving SB to take on LGD, 4 v 5.

Slardar goes dagger as usual, to make ganking easier. Exploiting the weaknesses in SB's carry player. LGD leaves morphs farming as much as he want. LGD has
deep understanding of hero-builds and strats. They always let doom initiate, baiting SB to gank him , and providing backup, counter-ganking SB. This is proven by several teamfights won by LGD(lured by doom with phaseboots & vg). As for team battles, LGD clearly outplays SB .

Why? Lets look briefly into some of the major wars. Close to end game at bottom lane, where SB interupts LGD's Roshan-hunt. Wall of Replica and Mass PLAGUE Wards creates a very confusing and disastrous havoc. With so many units, who is witch doctor's ward going to hit? And, it is not like WD can channel his ward as he like. Adding on doom's scorched earth with veno's ulti , it is hard for SB to aim properly.

With the advantages of Storm he could easily remove any supporters from the field. In this game, Storm ganks a few time on furio , delaying his Orchid. After several battles won by LGD , they go on with full-defensive builds(Vanguard, Hood, Linkin, Point Booster) . As we can imagine roughly, the factor that provides LGD
50% victory is dark seer's wall of replica. In many big fights , the illusion itself makes SB's vs and WD stun useless. Furthermore, WD's heal is totally useless againt's veno's ulti. With non-str but high str-base heroes such as veno and seer getting vanguards, point boster(veno) and hood(seer), they can tank as SB's total damage output. Storm is difficult to aim whereas Doom has high movement speed(phase+sorched earth) while CM hides behind.

As it is very hard to define a strategy, what could i say here to explain the strategy used by LGD is that LGD lures SB to gank them, baiting SB to chase , and counter kills them with quick backup. While on the other hand, LGD lets Morph to farm as much as he wants despite the nightmare of a fully-farmed morph. Looking at this ,we know that LGD purposely did that as they knew of SB's carry player weaknesses.

As for doom and storm getting linken , it is to gain high regeneration rate and to dodge first spell on them. Due to this high regen rate, after battles, they would not need to regen at fountain, saving more time ,advancing to the next step. As they predicted the game to end earlier, the best item that morph had was Manta and since LGD forces morph to return to defend as many times, Morph lacks levels and items. In the end, the only one that could deal the highest damage was Morphling .

All in all , LGD.sGty outdrafted SB in most aspects and outplayed them. Although SB did gank well in the first 10minutes, with the backup Storm provided, LGD started to shape themselves. As for team fights if morphling had participated in more fights earlier , the outcome of the game might have been different. LGD won most of their wars with superb coordination( storm ,seer). And not to forget,
LGD battles at perfect location such as narrow spots.
