BetBoom drops Dota 2 roster, SoNNeikO retains DPC Division I slot

SoNNeikO and co are back to being a stack with a Division I slot for the next Dota Pro Circuit season.

Russian betting company BetBoom will no longer sponsor the Dota 2 line-up put together by Akbar "SoNNeikO" Butaev. The roster was signed by BetBoom ahead of the second DPC tour this year and got to represent the betting company at two of the biggest LAN tournaments of 2022, the ESL Stockholm Major and The International 2022.

Despite a good run in the Easter Europe regional league and a top 8 finish at the Stockholm Major, BetBoom Team still had to go through regional qualifiers to get toTI11. They knocked down Virtus.pro 3-0 in the EEU qualifiers to claim the spot at the most important tournament of the year, but despite a strong showing in regionals, BetBoom fell flat at TI11.

A poor group stage performance with zero wins had BetBoom exit early, in the last place along with TSM.FTX.

However, according to the team manager and Luka “Lukawa” Nasuashvili, the two parts parted ways on good terms.

“We have come a long way together and in such a short period of time, we have become true friends that we will continue to be,” Lukawa said in the official announcement.

Upon their release from contract, the five players are free agents again, with the team captain, SoNNeikO retaining the Eastern Europe Division I slot for next year's Dota Pro Circuit.

It is unclear if the line-up will stick together, but if they scatter apart, whoever will join SoNNeikO for the 2023 season, will have a free ticket straight to Division I.
