World Cyber Arena returns with a new tournament format for its 2016 edition, all three big regional qualifiers (Europe, China, South East Asia) being treated as Seasonal events, each with its individual prize pool.
Season 2, European qualifiers for the LAN event is organized in collaboration with UCC and features a $60,000 prize pool and three stages as follows:
Open Qualifiers:
Dates: July 15th-16th
Platform: FACEIT
There are 512 spots for teams to register at the WCA European open qualifiers and the check in starts on the 15th of July at 17:00 CEST. All rounds will be played in a best of one format where the last two remaining squads will advance into the closed qualifiers stage. Registrations for the open qualifiers are already possible and can be done here.
Closed Qualifiers:
Starting date: July 18th
The winners and the runners-up of the open qualifiers will join six yet to be announced teams in the second stage. Closed qualifiers will be played starting on the 18th of July in a single elimination bracket where only the winner will advance into the Main Qualifiers event.
Europe Main Qualifiers:
Dates: to be announced
A total of eight teams will battle for a spot at the WCA 2016 LAN event, scheduled to take place at the end of this year in China. Main Qualifiers will be held at a yet to be announced date, but according to UCC, the third party organizer for the European competition, the event will take place soon after TI6.
Closed Qualifier winners will join seven directly invited teams to compete in a double elimination bracket. The final two teams will be qualified to the LAN event in China. The $60,000 prize pool will be distributed to all eight participants as follows:
1st place: $30,000
2nd place: $15,000
3rd place: $7,500
4th-8th place: $1,500
