NiP takes Area-51 title in 2-1 victory over VP

The Area-51 Cup saw a finals that went through all three games. Swedish team Ninjas in Pyjamas won 2-1 over Virtus.pro to claim their first title as a team.

Ninjas in Pyjamas have claimed their first title in their young careers. The full Swedish line-up took down Virtus.pro 2-1 in the finals of the Area-51 Cup to secure their first championship. Facing both Asus.Polar and Team Empire in the earlier rounds, it was a chance at redemption for NiP following their third place finish at StarLadder. Both times NiP prevailed and managed to take down their adversaries, earning them a spot in the finals. Virtus.pro had a seemingly easier way to the finals, facing Alliance and Tinker, both of which only recently got together a new roster, without too many positive results yet.

This marks NiP's first title ever since the squad was officially picked up in January. Ever since, the Swedes competed in two notable tournaments thus far, i-League Season 2 LAN finals and the StarLadder Season XI LAN finals. While their trip to China resulted in a last place finish, they managed to grab a third place in Kiev.

As for Virtus.pro, the Russians have participated in many tournaments ever since TI4, but only emerged victorious once. The team managed to snatch the MSI Beat it 2014 finals.

Prizepool distribution:

1st - Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas, $4,500
2nd - Russia Virtus.pro, $2,500
3rd/4th - Russia Team Empire / Europe Team Tinker, $1,500 each
