The Area 51 Cup by Alienware will feature eight teams from Europe in an online single elimination bracket battling it out for their stake in the $10,000 prize pool. The tournament will also feature the newly formed team, Meepwn'd.
The Area 51 Cup promises to be a small scale high action tournament given both its format and teams participating. Stretched over three days, the cup will feature top European teams fighting for their survival in the best of three single elimination bracket where the winner will take home the first prize of $4500. The cup will kick off on the 20th of January at 17:00 (CET) with Virtus.Pro vs Alliance.
The performance of teams such as Ninjas in Pyjamas and 4Anchors will be closely followed in this tournament given how the tournament format favors the up and coming new teams. In addition to that, Meepwn'd will also be closely monitored as this new team consisting of strong and acclaimed players will be playing one of their first games in this tournament. On the other hand, Empire will be looking to carry their 89% win rate from last month into January by continuing their stellar performance.
