JoinDota League Europe: Empire defeats Cloud9

The JoinDota Season 1 European finals concluded with Empire taking home the gold over Cloud9 in a best-of-three series with a score of 2-0. With their win, Empire will get 25% of the about $10,000 total prizepool, while Cloud9 will receive 13%.

Game one saw Empire pick a strong lineup with a carry Shadow Fiend and Clinkz, while Cloud9 managed to obtain Naga Siren and Mirana. However, Cloud9 got off to a bad start when their off-laner Puck died to a solo Clinkz, losing the courier in the process. Things began to spiral out of control when their Naga safe laner was killed twice in the safe lane while trying to grab creep kills against a battle hungry Axe-Shadow Demon combo. Every single lane for Cloud9 was lost, and Axe had a ten minute Blink Dagger. Cloud9 began to punish Empire's tower dives, knowing that their Zeus had the magical damage output to force them back. However, great rotations and ganks from the Empire support players continually boxed Cloud9 into a smaller farming zone, shutting down the Naga Siren. Empire split pushed bottom and top with a massive gold lead, taking barracks 28 minutes in and sealing the deal a few minutes later.

In game two, Cloud9 attempted to run a Shadow Fiend-Invoker combo while Empire went with Dragon Knight and Mirana.  Unfortunately for Cloud9, just before the game began, a blind arrow from Mirana led to a first blood on Shadow Fiend. Only forty seconds later, Shadow Fiend fell again to a gank from Witch Doctor. Cloud9's dual lane with Invoker and Treant Protector was also tower dived by Empire's tri lane consisting of Mirana, Witch Doctor, and Leshrac. With an unstoppable Dragon Knight seven minutes in, and top lane being a bloodbath, it was up to Bone7 to help out the rest of the team. However, his middle gank against the invincible Dragon Knight was unsuccessful. Empire continued to dominate the map with a score of 13-2 at the eight minute mark and it was only a matter of time before Cloud9 called GG at 14 minutes.

Empire's win will have them taking 25% of the about $10,000 total prizepool, whereas runner-up Cloud9 will get 13%. RoX.KiS and Power Rangers will get 8% and 4% respectively for their third and fourth place finishes. This division has the highest prize for the Champions among the three, as the American and Asian champion both received just 15% of the pool.

The European Division was the last group to finish with EG and Titan winning the American and Asian brackets respectively.
