RedBull ECL LAN finals details, papaxiong returns to Dota

ECL has released details of the RedBull ECL Dota 2 tournament which will be held from the 10th of July to the 14th. The tournament will welcome 12 teams and a familiar face in DotA, former Kingsurf player Papaxiong.

A total of 12 teams, four invited and eight qualified, will go head up against each other in the main event of the RedBull ECL which will be held from the 10th of July till the 14th of July at China Gaming Pavilion, Beijing, China.

Initially, the two LGD squads, iG, and DK were not allowed to participate in tournaments with less than $40,000 in prize pool such as the ECL. However, after much deliberation, ACE has decided to allow the big four to participate in which they were automatically seeded into the main event.

The twelve competitors will be separated into two groups of six and play each other in a best-of-one. The top four placers of the groupstage will move onto the playoffs which will be played in a best-of-three single elimination bracket with the exception of the best-of-five grand final.

The return of Papaxiong

As it appears, most of the professional Chinese teams have made it through the qualifiers with Neolution.Orange as the only non-Chinese teams participating. Apart from that, the tournament will also welcome the newly formed Team Royal, and two amateur teams Esports-MuXi and XPY. Esports-MuXi's roster packs quite a punch with Hao Hao '8GK' Zhang leading the team together with former Kingsurf player, Wei Siang 'papaxiong' Lee.

Papaxiong was part of the legendary Kingsurf DotA team who took runner-up in the first clash of the east and the west at ESWC San Jose. After some roster changes in 2010, papaxiong left competitive Dota and not many has heard from him since. We recently heard that papaxiong went to China to further his studies and this appears to be his first stint at making a comeback in the competitive scene.

On the other hand, XPY, formerly known as 90019 was the team Yan Jun 'Yaphets' Bu signed up with for the tournament but after they were defeated by Vici Gaming on the first round of the qualifiers, the famous Shadow Fiend player decided to stop playing with the team. Nevertheless, the team made it through to the main event without him, placing second in group A.

Team Royal, Han Ci 'Hanci' Huang's new team, will also debut in their first official tournament since formation.
