GSL Up/Down Day 3 Match Results

Here is a summary of the matches from Day 3 of the GSL Mar. Up and Down matches. Sorry it's so late, I caught the Kerrigan plague aka the flu.

The first game of the day was on Xel'Naga Caverns between SlayerS_Alcicia and IMMVP. A game I was very excited to see being a big SlayerS_Alicia fan. Both openings were pretty standard for both players and it was not until the mid-game that things got interesting. SlayerS_Alicia fast expanded and rushed IMMVP whilst he was one basing it. This very well timed three gateway rush was pretty slick. It caught MVP off guard in his own base. Alicia used some very well placed force fields that ended up trapping IMMVP's marauders just out of attacking range.

For the rest of the game Alicia stayed very aggressive not letting IMMVP expand trapping IMMVP in his natural base. The changing point in this game was when IMMVP mis-scanned and a Dark Templar began tearing through his SCV's. That and not being able to expand spelled clear defeat. IMMVP looked pretty disappointed after that game.

The Second game took place on TalDarim Altar with the players spawning in cross positions. Being on the large map that TalDarim is, neither player was aggressive early on. SlayerS_Alicia attempted to do a Dark Templar rush and IMMVP punishes him for it. At this point IMMVP decided to do a Banshee push that demolished most of SlayerS_Alicia's probes and slowly took him apart economy first. IMMVP Ties it up.

The Third game was on Metalopolis and both players start off with typical builds. SlayerS_Alicia quickly pushes out a zealot and stalker and starts harassing MVP whilst Alicia fast expands. Alicia also build a Robotics near MVP's base to save some time on immortal travel. Mid game, IMMVP finds the robo bay and destroys it but Alicia is already creating one at his natural. MVP attempts one attack with mostly marines, marauders, and a couple vikings but in the end is overrun by multiple colossus's.

The Second set started on TalDarim Altar and it was between MVPGenius and IMMVP. Yeah, I know, redundant names but I guess we'll see who the true MVP is. =P The game starts off very typical with fast expands from both players and some late scouting by IMMVP. Genius starts building up his army with sentries, zealots, and stalkers. MVP is going bio mostly marauder heavy with a couple medivacs. The first scuffle occurs in the middle of the map and IMMVP shoots off two perfect EMP's.

Sadly, IMMVP could not hold off the attack with units not being upgraded but this resulted in both players retreating. Again, IMMVP engages an army with a lot of colossi and just doesn't seem to know how to combat them. At this point the supply is 162 Genius and 67 MVP. IMMVP loses the first game.

The second game started on Shakuras Plateau which happens to be one of my favorite maps. Both players are just a rocks throw away. IMMVP goes for a fast expand and Genius goes for a late expand. He seems pretty confident MVP will not rush him. This game MVP was making some bad decisions. He missed an observer he scanned letting Genius collect a lot of intel about his base. Immediately after that MVP collects his marine, marauder, and medivac army charging towards Genius. MVP does something slick by stiming a single marine in rather than scanning and see's two colossi. He then tries to drop and sees an army of stalkers retreating back to his base. MVPGenius collects his army and goes around back to attack. IMMVP has a bad spread and gets rolled.

IMMVP gets demoted to Code A and let me just say many nerds were sad. For the lulz MVPGenius pulls out a bottle of bubbles and blows it as the camera centers on him. Literally.

The Third set started on Scrap Station and it was between TSL_Rain and oGsTOP. In the, past as some of us know, Rain received a lot of flack for cheesing in Season 2 of the GSL. After climbing the ranks of Code A these next couple matches were very important for Rain. The game starts and both players are doing very standard builds. It looked like TOP was going for a hellion drop early on and RAIN is building a couple banshees. Rain attempts to attack with his banshees but only get a couple scvs. TOP was ready for him with three vikings. TOP makes a banshee and heads over to rains base to give him some of his own medicine. The banshee takes out roughly 10 scv's and 4 marines and this it's beginning to look bad for Rain. TOP has a flourishing economy building marines and tanks. Rain was going full bio marauder and marine. TOP decided to make a drop on Rain's expansion but only gets a couple SCV's. Moments later TOP collects his entire arm with a couple vikings and heads to Rain's base. TOP currently has twice the amount of units as Rain. The match continues one with normal froggy Terran turtling and TOP takes the gold base, and two more expansions. Basically TOP owns the map and rolls through Rains army. Rain loses the first round.

The second game had both players start off across the map from one another. TOP looks to be going Banshees and Rain is doing the same. Both banshees pass one another like two trains in the night. Rain's banshee get destroyed immediately whilst TOP's banshee is taking out SCVs. Seven SCVs later a viking comes out destroying TOP's banshee.

Both players expand and collect their armies for an attack. Throughout this game TOP, being a macro player, continues to keep his supply at a twenty plus lead. When playing TVT on this map the control of the Xel'naga towers is key for victory. Both players have one in their possession.

Rain makes an attack with four tanks and a ball of marines but with bad positioning helps him lose his army. Yet again TOP has almost twice the units again. For the rest of the game Rain tries another drop and TOP counters at his main and rolls through Rain. TSL_Rain loses this match.

The fourth set started on Terminus RE and it was between TSL_Rain and oGsHyperdub. The game starts up pretty basic with no tom foolery. Both players poke and scout. Rain starts off with his cloaked banshees wreaking havoc and just tearing Hyperdub apart. Without any tanks Hyperdub cannot hold back Rain.

The second map was Shakuras Plateau and both players were across from one another. This time around, Hyperdub tries poking with some Banshees but Rain is ready with a viking and a ball of marines. Hyperdub tries to poke again with another banshee and is denied by Rain's three vikings. With three vikings you can two shot a banshee. Rain begins to collect his army and heads south towards Hyperdub. He fortifies his position near Hyperdubs main and start attacking his production facilities. This goes on for a couple small battles and Rain expands to a third base. Rain denies Hyperdub every opportunity to expand and rolls through Hyperdub. TSL_Rain moves to Code S.
