Gavin Smith in contention at Winter Borgata Main Event

In January, 42-year old poker pro Gavin Smith became a father for the first time. He discussed how his life had changed, remarkable for a pro known for his fun-loving Vegas lifestyle. It seems to have had a positive result on his poker mindset as well. He started off his 2011 tournament campaign hot. He went deep in last week's WPT Southern Poker Championship and now finds himself amongst the chip leaders at the Borgata Winter Poker Open main event after day 3.

The $3,500 event began Sunday drawing 718 players to create a $2,369,400 prize pool with $533,210 reserved for first.

Roslyn Quarto became the last woman standing after Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst busted in the early part of the day and now finds herself among the leaders as well.

Smith has $5,467,468 in career live tournament earnings putting him in the top 50 all-time. He won his first WSOP bracelet at the 2010 WSOP.

The remaining players in the field are all in the money.
