Interview with Groovy|Kluya

Question 1:

Could you briefly explain the journey that your team took through Prime Defending League to get a qualifying spot in Prime Defending 11?

Well, i've played about 5 or 6 primes, but none with my actual team. Altough we've always been good friends, we always played with different teams. It wasn't until about 6 months ago that we began playing together, so, this is our first pride defending tourney as a team, and we actually went to the playoff preliminaries. It was the first time any team from colombia made it that far, and it was obviously, also a first time for all of us, so, yeah, it was a pretty big deal, that's probably why we tried so hard not to get eliminated like that.

Question 2:

Could you explain, as briefly as possible, what occurred in the game against Wicked and the subsequent communications with the MYM admins?

We made a save at the 19 min mark. We had just taken down, both mid's first tower, and top's first tower when we made the save. About 2 mins later, we took down bottom's first tower. Sometime later, we took down top's second tower, and the took our first tower bottom. At the 33 min mark, one of our players dropped from the game, just as we were going to make a save. At this moment, Wicked tells us that they're not gonna start again from load, since it's too old, and both of us thought, that the call was legitimately theirs, so we refuse to play without our fifth hero (it would have been pointless, both teams knew that) and we leave the game. Since we didn't want it to end like that, we look at the rules and find something in the disconnections part that helps us, and actually gives us the right to start from load: http://www.mymym.com/en/coverage/524/1.html

There was no definite advantage for them, and actually, we were leading by about three kills in the time lapse between save and drop time (counting towers), so we go to mymym's admin uther, and talk to him. After he looks at the rules (yes, he didn't know the rules either), he says he'll take the matter to the head admin and if possible, we are to reschedule with Wicked. The next day, wicked tells us that uther's said to them they get win because the playday has already ended. We go talk to him, and after half an hour of pming him on IRC he finally says that "head admin" decided. It's at this point that one of wicked's players tells us that, uther said the following to them: "just ignore them". Now... there's the catch, is this the appropiate words in the mouth of an admin ? I really don't think so. Afterwards we start the forum thread to show our dissaproval of the decision, and the following day, Alisha contacts us, asking for the chatlogs with admins. If she had already decided, why did she need chat logs ?

Anyway, the rest is known by all, the rules were clearly in our favour, wicked had already agreed to play again, and uther had given us hope... just to take it all back the following day, with the sole argument that: it's past allowed playday. Curious fact: Mym has to play Sk for some tourney, and they've postponed it past allowed playday. Twice. So... they can, but we can't, it's basically that.

Question 3:

How do you feel about the way the matter was handled by the MYM staff?

I think it was really unfair. I mean, first they tell us something, then, without many arguments, they just tell us it's case closed. Allowed playday... i mean, we could have played wicked yesterday and then the winner team could play against fnatic today, so i don't really see the big deal. They always say: "rules are rules, no exceptions". How about the rules that favoured us ? Are those so bendable ? Who decides which rules are actually stronger ? There's nothing in the rules that says: playday rule is above everything else. Besides, one of their arguments is that we should have known the rules beforehand... then, how can they explain the fact that UtherX had to read them again in order to answer to us ? If even the admins don't know every nook and cranny of their own rulebook, how can they expect the players to know it ? I just think they were really inconsecuent with their actions, and that should really, REALLY not be the case with such a serious organization as mym.

Oh, and we all saw Uther's comments on the thread post, all very professional and all (sarcasm).

Question 4:

Do you feel that since you forfeited in game, that the MYM staff are within their rights to give the win to Wicked?

It's their tourney, apparently that gives them the right to give or take anything. But no, i don't think they were actually within their rights, both teams (wicked and us) had already agreed to play again. It made difference whatsoever to the mym admin crew, that we played again (if the rules said we should). This kind of matters should be left to the teams. If both teams agree to play again, then they should be able to do so, it's not like wicked went to them saying they would not play again (at least that's not what they told us), so i don't see the big deal the admin crew made about not letting us do it. Perhaps they were trying to make a point ? An example ? Playday is to pride as GOD is to christians ? Even stepping on their own rulebook, and the whole community's opinion to do it. Well... if that was the case, i think they did a fine job about it.

Question 5:

What steps do you think MYM could take to prevent this happening again?

Be more consecuent with their actions. Specify some things, so as not to leave open doors in the air for their own use. Also... give more decision power to the teams, after all, it's these teams that make their tourney, so why not let us decide for a change ? Oh, and get a more serious crew (yes, this is a direct reference to UtherX's behavior through the whole affair).

Question 6:

Do you think you will play in future Prime Defending Leagues/Tournaments?

Well... if it was up to me, i wouldn't play any more. I'm still really offended by the way mym handled the matter. But the rest of the team still thinks it's good practice, even if they too are offended, and our whole country looks forward to someone representing them in this kind of tourneys (kinda), so, yeah, we'll probably play again, but just to be sure, i'll print the rulebook and keep it at my side at all times. Oh, and i won't talk to UtherX about any problem anymore :).
