ESL announced more details about the Summer season today with one huge difference from Spring.
ESL gave a short statement Tuesday with few more details about the upcoming Summer season.
After feedback from the community about the “timeliness” (or lack thereof) of the Summer qualifier announcement, ESL decided to add another regional for Summer Season.
”We are sorry we had to announce the qualifiers and the first regional at short notice , and we promise to improve the way this works in the future.” Said ESL's product manager, David Kugelmann.
While we already knew the three qualifiers would be taking place a mere 5 days after the announcement and BEFORE the Spring Championships were even over, ESL added to the announcement that the Summer Regional would be April 22nd-24th at their UK Studios is Leicester, UK.
But this won’t be the only Summer Regional Europe will see.
They will now have TWO Regional championships for Summer. No more information has been released yet as to whether there will be another set of qualifiers for the second, or if the first will somehow tie in.
It's safe to say you can't really assume much of anything when it comes to region tournament announcements. As a result, there is a lot for fans to keep their eye on, leading up to the new season format ESL and Blizzard have set up.
The first European qualifier for the first Summer Regional starts Wednesday, March 23rd.
