MarsTV Dota2 League Chinese qualifier: CDEC almost out, Newbee doing fine

Tongfu and Newbee are the only teams remaining in the Chinese qualifier winner bracket after a clean sweep of CDEC by Tongfu and a 2-1 victory of CDEC.Y by Newbee.

Only six of the 17 teams participating in the Chinese qualifiers for the upcoming MarsTV Dota2 League LAN event remain. Among these six teams, four of them are one best-of-three away from being eliminated; notably, both IG and CDEC run the risk of being eliminated in the next set of games.

The MarsTV Dota2 League (or MDL) is a Dota2 tournament featuring ten teams from around the world competing for a $250,000 prize pool at a LAN event scheduled for the 26th to 31st of January in China. As of writing, only one of the ten teams has not been invited; this spot in the LAN finals is reserved for the winner of the currently ongoing Chinese qualifier.

Tongfu is looking very strong in the bracket, taking down CDEC and IG, two teams with star players such as Zhang 'Rabbit' Wang and Sun 'Agressif' Zheng. It seems that Tongfu's pick up of IG's former captain, Zheng 'Faith' Hong Da, in September is finally yielding some results after a period of poor performances, losing or ending in a draw in games outside of the MDL this month.

The other team in the winners bracket, Newbee, is also looking pretty solid. Starting off the year with some great results, Newbee is currently on a four win streak and holds a 60% win rate in the ten official games they have played this month; they have won against strong tier two Chinese teams like IG.V and CDEC.Y and have taken a game off of LGD, one of the MDL's directly invited teams. Newbee's next challenge will be to take down Tongfu, secure themselves a place in the finals and qualify for the main event, showing that they are out of their slump.
