4 of our favorite moments from the Overwatch beta stream

After waiting for months to see gameplay of the most anticipated PC title of the year, the majority of fans agree that the stream was a huge success. Here are our favorite moments.

If you haven't seen the stream check out the past broadcasters from Ellohime here and Haylinic here. Both streams combined feature over 4 hours of Overwatch gameplay, including comms of two teams trying their hardest to win and strategize. We saw an amazing glimpse of what competitive Overwatch might look like, and in that glimpse, we saw some amazing moments.

Here are our favorites and why:

1. Pharah getting hooked and killed.

It almost looks scripted: Pharah is getting off an amazing "JUSTICE RAINS FROM ABOVE" ultimate but gets hard countered by Roadhog's hook and melee attack. The combo kills a nearly full health Pharah immediately and, afterward, prompts a point by Ellohime that every time you think something is too powerful, you learn the counter to it. Words to live by.

2. Turret + Shield + Bush combo.

Torbjörn is a unique hero that some players will immediately flock to. Some players, not so much. The style of gameplay isn't for everyone, but Ellohime and an allied Reinhardt started the match off with a rather comical combo. Reinhardt simply stood in front of the bush with his shield up, giving Torbjörn all the time he needed to build a max level turret. It offered a glimpse of how to best get greedy with turret usage.

3. The "Everyone pick Bastion Strategy"

The ability for a team to pick all of the same hero was met with some apprehension when it was first revealed, however I think the stream laid to rest some concerns about the balance of such a strategy. Yes, seeing 6 Bastions walk down the same hallway was awesome, but did this combination bring up balance issues? Nope. While hilarious, the other team simply countered by all picking Tracer. The Immobile Bastion army didn't stand a chance and everyone had a great time.

4. Reaper killing everything (And wombo-combos in general)

While this was a fantastic use of the Reaper's Death Blossom, it isn't the only multi-kill moment worthy of display. It is noteworthy however, to see how Reaper's passive heal hard at work, as each hero kill he gets brings him back to full HP. One of the biggest reveals of the first Overwatch stream was just how powerful some heroes ultimate abilities are. AoE Combo synergy is a very powerful strategy, and I expect Zarya in particular to be a strong presence on any competitive team. Her Ultimate ability really does seem that powerful.
