Day 5 Recap: LGD eliminate VG and VP, only three remain

The fifth day of the International featured LGD eliminating VG and VP and CDEC continuing their dominance by beating EG 2-0.

Day five featured yet another huge upset caused by CDEC. The Chinese DotA Elite Community (aka CDEC) are a team that finished second in the Chinese qualifiers and had to fight their way through the wildcard qualifiers to reach the main event. Despite their disadvantaged start, CDEEC dominated the group stage and the main event, remaining unbeaten in the upper bracket. Adding to the list of achievements, CDEC managed to beat Evil Genuises 2-0 today, and have secured themselves a spot in the International 5 grand finals.

EG vs CDEC was not close. In game one, Evil Genuises built an advantage in the early game, but were not able to close the match because of CDEC's team fight. However, CDEC managed to defy the odds with perfect team fight execution, managing to pull the advantage down and eventually winning the game.

Game two witnessed EG in a worse position than before, being out drafted, outclassed and outplayed by CDEC. In this game, EG ran their famous "Anti-Bounty Hunter strat" by drafting a Treant and a plethora of tanky heroes; CDEC read this easily and made the appropriate adjustments. CDEC started their aggression before EG heroes had farm or levels and completely countered out the strat leading to earliest 'gg' call of the main event.

The next series of the day featured LGD taking on Virtus Pro; the CIS team picked a very similar lineup to their lineup against Team Secret which led LGD to predict and counter the strategy with early game aggression paired with Xiao8's offlane Clockwork. The second game featured even more dominance by LGD. Being confident, LGD let Leshrac, one of the highest contested heroes in TI5, past in the first ban stage and still managed to crush VP without the valuable Leshrac; LGD takes the series 2-0.

The final match of the day was LGD vs Vici Gaming. LGD had just ended Virtus Pro, the last European team's, dream run and Vici Gaming went into the match after playing EHOME and maintaining a perfect 7-0 in the main event. The first game went in favor VG and it looked like they were going to secure themselves a top three finish but LGD managed to win the next two games of the best-of-three series.
