Speed Gaming defeat EG to win E-Sports Prime Cup

?

Speed Gaming come out on top of the E-Sports Prime Cup as they defeat Evil Geniuses 2-1 in the finals, taking home $1,500 for their efforts in the first outing of the new competition.

The first round offered few surprises in the ESP Cup, the only one being perhaps that new North American team with former Heroes of Newerth players, Stay Free, took out Peruvian favourites For Sweet Revenge. This was followed by a very close series against Evil Geniuses, before Stay Free eventually had to bow out of the competition in the second round, as EG progressed with a narrow 2-1 victory. The other second round match-up saw Speed Gaming come off their loss against Alliance to put in a far more convincing performance against Fnatic, notably busting out a Drow Ranger and Mirana based strategy for the second game which was highly effective.

The finals of the tournament went down between a heavily favoured Speed Gaming and Evil Geniuses, yet from the very first moments it was clear that EG were not going to be a pushover, as they were able to shut down the Weaver of Speed Gaming fairly effectively in the first game of the series. Still, EG slowly lost ground and during the mid portion of the game things started swinging more and more in favour of their opponent, as they managed to break the base and come out on top through this accumulated advantages. After a full hour and with WehSing 'SingSing' Yuen carrying them over the line, Speed Gaming came out victorious in the first game of the series.

For the second game EG mixed things up, harking back to older lineups and their love for pushing lineups as they picked a hard carry Necrolyte. Again, the early barracks turned out to be key as Speed Gaming threatened a comeback in the mid to late portion of the game, but were never able to find the openings to punish EG for lost teamfights due to their own base being constantly threatened. This enable EG to keep on throwing bodies at their enemies base, slowly chipping away until the throne fell, with Saahil 'Universe' Arora on the Nature's Prophet being the man of the match this time around for the EG win.

However by the deciding game Speed Gaming had well and truly decided they had had enough. They took charge early on with well co-ordinated ganks and built up a strong early kill lead, snowballing into commanding mid game dominance which left only few isolated moments for EG to get some return kills, but not enough for them to turn things around, as the lead just kept on growing until the inevitable 'GG', crowning Speed Gaming as the champions of the E-Sports Prime Cup.
