Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Passes $100M in Total Tournament Prize Money

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has joined an extremely exclusive club of esports which have awarded more than $100M in tournament prize money, according to data from Esports Earnings. The game’s lifetime total at time of writing sits at $100.09M USD awarded across 5,160 tournaments. CS:GO joins its sister Valve title Dota 2, which is the only game on record to have awarded more than $200M in tournament payouts, due in large part to the high figures accrued by its crowdfunded annual championship, The International. 

Valve provides comparatively little prize money to the CS:GO ecosystem, funding just two $1M Majors each year. However, in recent years the game has seen a boom in large-scale tournaments organized by third parties which offer their own big payouts.
