Warcraft RTS deserves to live on (16756 reads, 31 replies, 1 year ago)
War3 is one of the best RTS games and it deserves to live on in form of War4. The main reason War3 is kinda dieing out is the fact that most pro players are switching to SC2 (more cash and sponsors) but also a lot of casual gamers ( SC2 is newer and it has better features). I am playing both War3 and SC2 but i love War3 much more because the game system and play style is just perfect (hero usage, intense micro where SC2 is more a macro game and so on). The main reason i started playing SC2 is because i like RTS games and SC2 is a really great one + it has all the new features like bnet 2.0 which is the best thing i've ever seen (the league system, matchmaking system, no hackers etc ) new customkeys system , improved graphics and sounds and so on. If Blizzard would make War4 with all these great features i bet most of the pros, old War3 players and of course new ones would get the game. I know Blizzard has many projects and so on but don't let such a great game die. I think many players will agree with me.

Wc3 is still alive.... Look at tours that still go on/will be.

sc2 is a good game ,everyone just chose what to play. Wc3 is kinda old but i love wc3 more then sc2 :P Viva wc3. Sc2 is a good game ,his out to the stores doesn't mean that wc3 is completely dead or just because its good,wc3 will die only when wc4 will come :P or even not die :D.
Actually I didn't see ever a game dies ,SC1 for example has no leagues anymore besides some few korean, but many people still play it.

yeah, even WC2 isnt completely dead, from what ive heard tho

Warcraft3 and starcraft2 are two differnet kinds of rts, even Broodwar is somehow alot different from Starcraft2.

somehow i just feel its a shame that most of the great wc3 playerls switched to SC2, the possibility for epic games on wc3 wont come much anymore, where you still see all the korean superstars in broodwar.

i hope that WC3 will live on, just for the sake of ESports

When WC3 came SC1 still lived till now so I don't think wc3 will die anytime soon.

I know it's still alive and it will be because of guys like us who support and still play the game. But lets face it, the golden age of War3 is over, like "lungo" said the best pros are gone and the possibility of epic games is low, the tours and events aren't that great and fun to watch as before, the spotlight is now on some other games and i think War3 deserves much more. Maybe the reason is because the game is lets say "rusty", with new features like those in SC2, those i mentioned in the first post, the game would be at its peak again. All the War3 lovers like myself will support this great game, we will of course keep on playing ( the game is just too good :D ) and one day i hope we will get War4 where Warcraft RTS will shine again like it did before.

Ive been playing Blizzard games since Warcraft: Orcs vs Humans back in 1994. I was 12 years old then and I am 29 years old now and I still enjoy the games that Blizzard produces. Warcraft 3 was by far my favorite blizzard title and is by far my favorite rts title. It was the first rts game I ever played that gave you so much to do so that matches werent just mass an army for a few minutes and attack like most rts games are. The additions of heroes and the emphasis on low army sized battles made the game even more facinating to me.

For 5 years I worked night shift at a factory and because of working nights and sleeping during the day I only got to see family and friends once a week because I was at work when they were home and they were at work when I was home. Warcraft 3 kept me occupied and clans/chat channels served as my only socializing during that time. So the game has even more special meaning to me then just a great game with a good community and a exciting esport scene(at the time).

Blizzard is currently working the Starcraft 2 expansion(and 1 more after that one), Diablo 3, and a new mmo. Blizzard already said during there 2010 last quarter meeting with investors that no games will be released in 2011, that the only game planned for release in 2012 is the Starcraft 2 expansion, and that the companies entire focus for this year and next is further pushing Sc2 and WoW. Lets also not forget that it took Blizzard 12 years before Starcraft 2 even came out.

Face it with there current schedule and track record the likely hood of seeing Warcraft 4 for almost a decade is extremely unlikely.

Ye i know Blizzards shedule is full and i'm good with waiting however it takes for War4 to be released but the only thing i fear is that the Warcraft story continued in form of WoW terminated Warcraft as a RTS. What do you think?
As it goes for Dota it's just a mini game (true its played by more players --> it's much easier to be good at) wich is nothing to compare with War3 and its multitasking and complexity.

I agree that WoW crapped all over what lore there was created for the Warcraft universe. However when you are playing multiplayer and working your way through ladder none of that really matters. Personally I only played the campaign once for RoC and TFT afterwards I felt no need to ever play them again.

The true joy in Warcraft is having close matches with evenly skilled opponents. The addiction to the game is the joy of the competing with those people and getting better so that you can have close matches with even more skilled players.

There are only 4 things you need to have for Wc4 to be a great RTS. The game mechanics need to be sound, there needs to be balance between the races, the game shouldnt be casualised into the ground, and there should be a great community behind it.

As for your opinion of DotA Im not even going to discuss it because it has nothing to do with Wc4.

My opinio about dota was just answer to "MarK0000". I have nothing against the game, but like you said it has nothing to do with War4.

I can tell you my point of view.

I would still play 100% if they fixed all the balance issues, and created all new maps. And a few new tavern heroes could never hurt!

But Blizzard dont give a shit, want us to stop playing so that we buy SC2 and all its expansions.

Also one of the main reasons people are quitting, lets say bnet not War3, are those pathetic hackers, every 2nd guy is a damn hacker and thats absolutely annoying...Is it so hard to make bnet hack free like on SC2? Can anyone explain that?

I wouldnt place the rib too high for a War4 though. I don't say it wont come, but if it comes, it might turn out to be a disappointment for hardcore war3 fans if they change too much stuff, makes the bnet system worse (as they did with Sc2) and other stuff. Still though, a lot of people are playing war3 so stick to it as long as it pleases you, is my advice.

If they keep the actual game style like they did in SC2 i think nobody will be disappointed. Have you actualy seen Bnet in SC2? Worse? Are you kidding? o.O
Sure i will stick to War3 but lets hope they make some improvements, they released a patch, that was nice it kinda proves they still care about the game, but now they should do something with Bnet also, I think the players and the fans deserve it.
