Hi there evreybody!

I'm currently writing on an essay about wc3. I did wonder if there are any pro or ladder players here who could tell me whether they are or not using the ingame possibility of changing the viewers perspective.

I was thinking , that it might have a positive affect on the pre-battle preparation, once one is to be attacked or wants to attack himself.

The player might loose track of some of his own troops for a short while, but would gain a greater view distance.

It does take some time to get closer to the ground an by that tilt the camera upwards, but maybe one could gain an advantage knowing, which troops the opponent is sending in first.

On the other hand I do not know, if strategies have always been the same, so everybody knows anyway, which units to prepare for or to expect.
Maybe Pros only use the minimap and the sidescrolling feature to get an overview, or is even that overrated and their only looking at specific points of interest, like hitpoints and mana of their own and the opponents units.

Hoping to get some input here. Thank you in advance.

Bob

Only use it while watching replays. While it does technically give you a larger viewing area, zooming makes clicking units difficult, and moving them even harder. The amount of "open space" goes down, because each unit blocks more of the screen. This means you have to be extremely accurate with your clicks.

The turn could have been useful, but you have to waste a finger holding down insert or delete to use it, making it not worth it. I do often use them though when watching replays or observing games, as you can see more of the screen.

Good luck with your essay.

About only use for them is when air units are around - when trying to pick up an item and a dragon is blocking it for example.

As long as a ''good player'' knows what units his enemy has, he will know what units his enemy will put in front(if the enemy isnt a noob).

Well thank you very much for sharing your experience. That gives me an impression of how inportant a feature like this is for wc3. I did speak to some of my colleagues who used to play wc3 a lot during their "early university years" and they told me similar. I just wanted to confirm with you.

Thank you ever so much.
